Research study background:
Amblyopia is a neurodevelopmental disorder of vision that is often considered to be untreatable in adulthood due to a lack of visual cortex neuroplasticity in the mature brain. Recent evidence suggests that providing a clear image to the retina of the amblyopic eye using spectacles or contact lenses can cause a gradual improvement in monocular and binocular vision in adult patients. The aim of this study is to test this potential treatment approach for adults with amblyopia within a randomized clinical trial design. Functional and structural MRI will be used to explore the neural mechanisms that underpin the improvements in vision.
Required skills and job duty:
The appointees will assist the project leaders in the research project : “Recovering vision in amblyopia” The tasks include project development, study design/protocol, ethics applications, experimental setup, data collection, data analysis and preparation of manuscript. Preference will be given to candidate who has the experience in one or more of the following areas: clinical assessment of vision, psychophysics, programming, MRI, randomized clinical trials, statistical analysis.
Qualifications
Applicants for the Postdoctoral Fellow posts should have a doctoral degree or an equivalent qualification in Vision Science, Psychology, Neuroscience, Optometry, Ophthalmology, Rehabilitation or other related disciplines.
Applicants for the Research Associate posts should have a master’s degree or an equivalent qualification in one of the said disciplines.
Applicants for the Research Assistant posts should have an honours degree or an equivalent qualification in one of the said disciplines.
The appointees shall be working in Hong Kong. Overseas graduate is welcome to apply, the qualification awarding institution should be the top 100 institutions for STEM-related subjects in QS/Shanghai Jiao Tong Uni/Times Higher Education world university rankings. (details here)
