Head of Mathematics

Responsible for all aspects of leadership and management of the department, the Head of Mathematics will work closely with the middle and senior leadership teams to ensure that the Mathematics Department, as a core subject, is a flagship for a high-quality, creative curriculum and pedagogy.

Able to create a classroom culture where there are no limits to what can be achieved, ideally you will have a degree in your specialist subject, a teaching qualification plus considerable teaching experience and knowledge of the curriculum. Receptive to feedback and ready to embrace change, you will be keen to share best practice with colleagues.

A strong ambassador for the school, you will be able to develop new ways to engage students and parents with the wider school and Nord Anglia Education community. Your strong motivation and communication skills will also enable you to create a feeling of energy, excitement and personal investment within the classroom. You will also be able to meet visa-related restrictions for Hungary, which typically involves holding a European passport.

Other Responsibilities

Contribute positively to the morale and community spirit in the school;
Work effectively in different teams;
Assist in whole school marketing initiatives and contribute to the growth of the school;
Operate at all times within the stated policies and practices of the school and NAE;
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of excellent pedagogy and curriculum;
Be proactive in professional development to enhance students' learning;
Meet responsibilities with regard to safeguarding, health and safety, equal opportunities and conform to professional and ethical requirements;
Any other appropriate duties as allocated by the Principal.

Key Responsibilities

Generate excitement and passion for mathematics within the community;
Inspire trust and confidence in them as a leader and the team from students, colleagues and parents;
Engage and motivate students to strive for the highest achievements;
Promote the use of technology in the classroom to enhance learning;
Be relentless in the quest for excellence, using achievement and progress data and lesson observations to seek out and promote excellent teaching;
Ensure continuity across Primary and Secondary and contribute to the development of curriculum, pedagogy and teaching across the school;
Build strong teams and create the conditions for staff to learn from each other;
Continually strive to develop the quality of students’ learning across the curriculum, particularly in relation to English language development;
Use student tracking and monitoring processes to support and advance student learning and enhance professional practice;
Contribute to school improvement planning and the development of the curriculum;
Develop and deploy curriculum, schemes of work and resources efficiently and effectively;
Promote the school mission and values and those of the NAE family of schools.

Qualification/Training

Qualified to bachelor degree level or above.
Qualified Teacher Status.

Experience

Proven track record with at least five years’ teaching experience.
Experience of being part of a highly successful department and school.
Experience of project and team leadership.
Demonstrable evidence of innovating and adapting curriculum to engage children and enable them to perform highly.
Working in partnership with parents.

Skills

Excellent oral and written communication in English.
Ability to engage children and enable them to perform highly.
Strong ICT skills and attention to detail.
Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload.
