Consultant Psychologist

Job Title: Clinical Psychologist
Location: GALRO Kilbixy Paddocks, Co Westmeath
Reporting to: Therapy Manager
Candidate will: -
- Be of good character.
- Hold a Third Level degree and appropriate clinical qualifications in Psychology which are accredited by the Psychological Society of Ireland or the UK.
- Submit proof of their registration on the PSI Register.
- Have an interest in working with neurodiverse children and adult service users.
- Have up-to-date knowledge and background in Disability, Children and Adult Services.
- Experience with ADOS2/ADIR is preferable but not necessary.
- Be able to administer and deliver evidence-based standardised assessments, clinical reasoning and treatment plans.
- Have a working knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support.
- Have a special interest in behaviour and disability support needs.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, report writing skills and be proficient at managing records in electronic format and hard copy.
- Have the ability to provide support and advice to people with varied neurodiverse presentations.
- Have the ability to assess a person’s presentation and formulate, implement and advise on the implementation of a support plan.
- Have up-to-date knowledge of psychological practices in social care and community settings.
- Be willing to give sound professional advice to front-line care staff and families in relation to the behaviour support needs of children and adult service users.
- All GALRO staff require to be Garda Vetted at least every three years.
Primary Function: -
To assess and observe the psychological, cognitive, emotional, social and behavioural profiles of service users; then interpret effects on their engagement with self, physical and social environments and engagement with functional independence.
Duties: -
1. Carry out psychological, cognitive and functional assessments.
2. Deliver professional psychology services appropriate to the post in line with best practices.
3. Carry out standardised and non-standardised assessments and/or tests to compile relevant clinical information.
4. Engaging with relevant professionals and other clinical disciplines within the service regarding an individual’s diagnosis.
5. Prepare plans to support individuals with behavioural concerns that impair learning or inhibit social functioning.
6. Communicate and collaborate with other professionals, service users, families, care givers and frontline staff to ensure consistency in the implementation of treatments.
7. Review service user progress to determine outcomes.
8. Act as a consultant to frontline staff and behaviour support workers.
9. Keep up to date with developments and new strategies to improve the overall well-being of service users.
10. Maintain a high standard of record keeping in compliance with current legislation, regulatory requirements and GDPR rules.
11. Exercise duties in accordance with all legislative requirements in relation to the role.
12. Other duties and responsibilities appropriate to the role that may be required from time to time.
