Diageo is a global leader in beverage alcohol with an outstanding collection of brands across spirits and beer categories. These brands include Johnnie Walker, Crown Royal, J&B, Buchanan’s and Windsor whiskies, Smirnoff, Cîroc and Ketel One vodkas, Captain Morgan, Baileys, Don Julio, Tanqueray and Guinness.
Diageo’s new €200 million state-of-the-art carbon neutral brewery in Newbridge, Co. Kildare will brew lagers and ales including Rockshore, Harp, Smithwick’s, Kilkenny and Carlsberg. With a capacity of 2 million hectolitres, it will be the second largest brewing operation in Ireland after St. James’s Gate and support the future growth of Diageo Ireland’s beer brands.
The state-of-the-art brewery will be powered with 100% renewable energy and will harness the latest process technology to minimise overall energy and water consumption. The target date for the brewery to begin production is 2026 and it will facilitate the growth of overall beer exports from Ireland. It will also facilitate enhanced capacity for the production of the fast-growing Guinness 0.0 at the traditional home of Guinness at St James’s Gate in Dublin.
About the Role
The Quality Analytical Lead is a pivotal member of the Operations team, responsible for setting up the lab facilities, including an analytical lab, microbiological lab, and dedicated water lab, throughout the duration of the project.
This role will ensure lab performance meets the highest standards by leading all aspects of equipment procurement, setting up work practices, training lab analysts, and establishing the lab asset care strategy.
As the subject matter expert, the Quality Analytical Lead will work to ensure that quality systems are effectively implemented.
Key Responsibilities
The Quality Analytical Lead will be responsible for embedding safe lab practices, ensuring all onboarding analysts are trained in Laboratory Practices.
Key responsibilities include the procurement and set-up of lab equipment, developing analytical and microbiological procedures, and ensuring compliance with ISO and Diageo standards.
The role will also establish calibration, maintenance, and quality systems for lab and field instrumentation.
You will collaborate with water and effluent plant providers, manage external lab contracts, and implement a sampling plan.
Additionally, you will coordinate the training of lab staff, manage lab asset care, and work with the MANEX lead to set up continuous improvement processes.
About You
You will have a relevant science degree and demonstratable laboratory experience in a similar environment.
A background in science or analytical chemistry is critical, along with expertise in chemical and microbiological analysis, brewing quality control, and statistical techniques.
Ideally you should have ability to demonstrate proficiency in lab setup, training personnel, and delivering on high-performance objectives.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage relationships with both internal stakeholders and external suppliers are key to success in this role.
Experience in lab commissioning and working in production environments will be a distinct advantage.
