Senior Counsel, Regulatory (Product Stewardship/EHS/ESG)

ADI is seeking an experienced lawyer to serve as our first in-house Senior Counsel environmental and regulatory specialist. You will report directly to the Regional General Counsel EMEA in Limerick, Ireland, serving as the primary Legal and Risk Oversight (“LRO”) advisor to business stakeholders on regulations impacting the environment, health and safety. Although we are seeking a qualified candidate in the EU, this new role will be global in scope with the opportunity to advise company leaders and influence best practices at the company’s US headquarters and beyond. You will work with global, cross-functional teams of in-house lawyers, paralegals and other legal and risk specialists and support staff. Ideally you will be based in Limerick which is our European headquarters and only European manufacturing site. However, for the ideal candidate we may be able to accommodate requests to be based in one of our other European offices such as Brussels or Munich.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The ideal candidate will also have the depth and breadth of skills and experience needed to hold primary responsibility over the following areas:
  • Serve as an accountable, primary LRO legal advisor to internal ADI stakeholders impacted by environmental and chemical regulations, providing actionable regulatory advice that can be swiftly incorporated into risk-based, strategic decisions. Key stakeholders include:
    • Quality & Business Unit leads / product stewardship
    • Global Facilities / EHS team leads
    • Global Facilities / manufacturing site leaders
    • Corporate Strategy / ESG & Sustainability Programs
  • Provide timely and accurate interpretations of the various environmental, sustainability, and similar laws and regulations affecting the company’s business to senior leadership and operating personnel; keeping them apprised of the types of actions that require consideration and providing internal guidance regarding potential legal and risk issues. Scan the horizon for new regulatory requirements that may impact ADI.
  • Support special projects and support continuous improvement of LRO department standard work, knowledge management, and processes, including the development and implementation of product stewardship, EHS and ESG policies and guidelines
  • Keep members of the LRO leadership team apprised of ongoing legal developments, as well as emerging legal, regulatory and risk topics
  • Help define strategy for any litigation involving environmental claims, other role-adjacent areas, in partnership with ADI’s Litigation lead and appropriate ADI subject area experts
  • Coordinate with ADI’s Government Affairs team regarding potential ADI policy positions or advocacy relating to new legislation in the product/EHS/ESG domain.
  • Manage and assist internal clients with resolving legal and risk issues in a manner consistent with enterprise business philosophy, values and strategy, and in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Work closely and collaboratively with a cross-functional team of in-region lawyers, paralegals and other legal and risk professionals and support staff
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Qualified lawyer in a European jurisdiction, with a law degree from a reputable university. An ideal candidate would also have scientific training (e.g. chemistry) and/or a masters or higher degree relating to product stewardship/EHS/ESG.
  • Minimum 5 years PQE at a top tier law firm substantially focused on product stewardship/EHS/ESG practice, ideally with additional inhouse experience at a multinational manufacturing company.
  • Substantial expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    • Product related regulations and standards, including chemicals (e.g. REACH, CLP, Batteries, CE marking)
    • Environmental laws applicable to air, water, waste, recycling and property development (e.g. WFD, WEEE, Aarhus Convention), preferably including environmental permitting processes
    • Occupational health and safety laws and standards
    • Climate laws (e.g. Green Deal/ECL)
    • Climate and sustainability litigation (including green-washing)
    • ESG regulations (e.g. EU taxonomy, NFRD/CSRD), soft law standards (e.g. UNGP and OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises) and related legal obligations and commitments.
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the global organization, as well as with internal and external clients.
  • Experience working in a face-paced environment, with a history of advising in real-time in meetings, including to executive leadership team, providing accurate guidance and pragmatic solutions
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion) and planning skills
  • Fluency in English required; business proficiency in other European languages is a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, and reasoning) and executive presence
  • Ability to travel, as needed, both in region and internationally (up to 25%)
  • High degree of systems proficiency (including MS Office Suite, Outlook and Internet applications)
  • Ireland-based candidates preferred. International relocation may be offered for this position on a case-by-case basis.
For positions requiring access to technical data, Analog Devices, Inc. may have to obtain export licensing approval from the U.S. Department of Commerce - Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the U.S. Department of State - Directorate of Defense Trade Controls.
