About the role
We are seeking a Legal & Compliance Counsel in Malaysia. The main focus of this role will be on compliance and regulatory matters.

The ideal candidate will have a mindset of continuous improvement and adaptability and will demonstrate curiosity, collaboration and the ability to deal with ambiguity especially in a start-up environment.

You should be highly organised and meticulous as well as passionate about technology. Ideally, you should have experience as a regulatory lawyer. You will assist in monitoring changes to applicable laws and regulations, implement policies and advise stakeholders on compliance matters.

This role is based in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia and reports directly to the Head of Legal in Singapore.

A summary of the key responsibilities are as follows:

Assist the Head of Legal in advising our local and regional stakeholders on a broad range of operational and commercial regulatory matters;
Develop and maintain policies and guidelines to ensure Doctor Anywhere is in compliance with all relevant guidelines, regulations and legislation;
Ensure communication and implementation of applicable policies and procedures;
Keep abreast of industry developments and emerging trends, the introduction of new products/services, as well as their implications from a regulatory / compliance perspective;
Work with the various functions in the Doctor Anywhere group in order to respond to due diligence requests from clients/investors;
Advise on employment matters, payment services issues, personal data protection laws, medical/health laws, advertising regulations and other applicable regulations in Singapore, Malaysia and any other countries that Doctor Anywhere operates in;
Assisting with ESG compliance;
Review, advise and negotiate a wide range of contracts (including tenancy agreements, vendor agreements, marketing agreements, insurance policies and NDAs);
Conduct research on various regulatory and contentious issues.

About you

At least 7 years of Legal and Compliance experience in total (with at least 3 years’ experience in an in-house Compliance role preferred);
Called to either the Singapore, Malaysian or UK bar;
Experience with regulatory requirements in Singapore and Malaysia will be preferred.
Experience with regulations in any other Southeast Asian country or healthcare regulations will be an added bonus;
You have unquestionable integrity and high standards in the work you do;
Genuine curiosity and strong desire to continuously learn and grow;
Experience of working within a tech startup and hyper growth environment would be a bonus;
A start-up attitude - you take full ownership of things that you do, willing to go out of your comfort zone and take on new challenges.
Comfortable with ambiguity and flexible to learn new things - we’re not done growing, and heading into uncharted territories is part of the fun!
