The Register of Damage for Ukraine was established in May 2023 through an Enlarged Partial Agreement of the Council
of Europe. The Register has its seat in The Hague, Netherlands. The Register serves as a record, in documentary form, of
claims and evidence on damage, loss or injury caused by the Russian Federation’s internationally wrongful acts in or against
Ukraine. The Register receives claims from individuals, businesses and state and municipal entities in Ukraine regarding
damage, loss or injury that they have suffered because of the Russian aggression in Ukraine.
Your role
As a Junior Claims Processing Lawyer, you will:
support and assist senior lawyers in reviewing and processing incoming claims and pre-screening them against the
established eligibility criteria for their inclusion into the Register (manually or with the use of specialised software and
other digital tools);

perform, under the supervision of senior lawyers, legal research and analysis and prepare legal opinions, studies, briefs,
reports and correspondence, as required;

contribute to keeping an accurate record of claims brought before the Register;
apply proper policies, procedures and guidelines for claims processing to ensure that the work product of the Legal
Division is of the highest (editorial) quality;

support senior lawyers in ensuring that policies, procedures and guidelines for claims processing are up-to-date and
contribute to the drafting of amendments and internal rules and regulations;

work closely with the IT and Data Management Units on issues related to the claims processing platform;
perform other job-related duties as required.

What we are looking for
You must:
have a higher education degree in law, preferably equivalent to a master’s degree (2nd cycle of the Bologna process
framework of qualifications for the European Higher Education Area);

after having obtained the relevant degree in law, have some professional experience, with a total of no more than two
years, working on large litigations or arbitrations, or mass claims, and/or experience in the application of relevant
information technologies to claims administration in a legal context; candidates with more than two years of relevant
professional experience will not be considered;

possess a proficient level of English (English is one of the two official languages of the

What we offer
If successful, you may be offered employment based on renewable fixed-term contracts for a maximum cumulated
duration of four years at grade B3. In The Hague, you will receive a basic monthly gross salary of € 4 092 which is exempt
from national income tax. This salary may be supplemented by other allowances depending on your personal situation. You will
benefit from the
