What does a Legal Officer do?
As part of a dedicated client servicing team, the Legal Officer supports the (Senior) Legal Manager with legal and administrative tasks to ensure client compliance. Your responsibilities include, but not limited to, drafting legal documents, managing client correspondence, and maintaining compliance with local regulations. Additionally, you will also take charge of managing ad-hoc activities and special projects, such as UBO registrations, alongside your regular daily workload.
You’ll report to the Senior Legal Manager or Team Manager Legal.
Your main tasks and responsibilities include:
Legal and administrative support:
- Supporting the (Senior) Legal Manager in keeping a client portfolio of various types of clients in legal good standing in accordance with law;
- Supporting the (Senior) Legal Manager in all sorts of legal matters such as incorporations and liquidations of client entities;
- Convening and attending board meetings, (annual/extraordinary) meetings, and taking minutes;
- Drafting and reviewing legal documentation of a general civil- and corporate law nature (such as board- and shareholder’s resolutions, power of attorneys, loan agreements and contracts etc);
- Administrative handling of various legal and financial documents and responsible for maintaining client portfolio’s data management;
- Monitoring filing and reporting deadlines with local authorities;
- Responsible for filings of financial statements, changes in board of directors and/or shareholders at the Trade Register at the Chamber of Commerce;
- Processing of payment orders;
- Handling of client correspondence;
- Preparing/handling file transfer protocols;
- Opening/maintaining/closing bank accounts;
- Pro-actively making recommendations for improvements to the existing processes and procedures.
- Occasionally (upon request) aiding in general communication / coordination with clients, (tax) advisors, lawyers, banks, notaries and authorities.
- Maintaining timely UBO-registrations;
- Maintaining the (digital) client’s compliance files and supporting the (Senior) Legal Manager in client file reviews;
- Supporting the (Senior) Legal Manager in the client (re)acceptance procedure and handling ongoing compliance reviews and procedures;
- Supporting the (Senior) Legal Manager in identifying, analyzing and documenting potential (fiscal) integrity risk and subsequent mitigating measures;
- Ensuring full compliance with United’s framework of policies and procedures;
- Actively monitoring information requests for the compliance review cycles;
- Supporting the (Senior) Legal Manager in transaction monitoring of clients’ transactions;
- Ensuring full compliance with local legislation and regulations.
- Building and fostering strong relationships with (inter)national clients;
- Maintaining and expanding network of partners (law firms, notaries, tax consultants, accountants; banks etc.);
- Being involved/engaged in business development activities and organizing events for clients.

To be successful in this position you have:
- College / Bachelor’s degree in preferably (Dutch) Law (corporate, fiscal, notarial or civil Law) or relevant equivalent thereof;
- Knowledge of Dutch corporate law and regulations;
- Fluent in English, written and verbal communication skills, Dutch is an advantage;
- At least 1 year’ of relevant experience working as Legal Officer in financial services, preferably in a trust environment;
- Ability to organise and coordinate workload in order to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with a constant focus on the legal processes and deadlines of the client companies;
- Hands-on and independent work mentality, able to think in solutions, accurate, able to meet deadlines and adherence to procedures;
- Quality focused business-minded with the ability to deliver excellent service to our clients;
- A flexible, engaged and attentive to details team player with excellent communication skills and take initiative to act without waiting for direction when appropriate;
- A proactive approach to everyday tasks, excellent communication skills, team-orientation.
