DESCRIPTION
Michael Baker International is seeking a highly-motivated Project Engineer in support of our growing New Jersey and New York Operations bridge practice. The ideal candidate will be able to perform conventional and complex bridge and structure designs, and load ratings. They will be responsible for assisting the project manager in managing infrastructure projects in the bridge & structural service line. The selected candidate will perform technical or project oversight, contract management, technical and cost proposal development for targeted statewide clients.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The approximate compensation range for this position is $98,791 to $142,629. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.

DESCRIPTION
Michael Baker International is seeking a highly-motivated Project Engineer in support of our growing New Jersey and New York Operations bridge practice. The ideal candidate will be able to perform conventional and complex bridge and structure designs, and load ratings. They will be responsible for assisting the project manager in managing infrastructure projects in the bridge & structural service line. The selected candidate will perform technical or project oversight, contract management, technical and cost proposal development for targeted statewide clients.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform complex structural analysis and prepare design calculations using Midas, AASHTOWare Bridge Rating, STAAD, and other similar software tools
- Develop structural details and construction plans using Micro Station or Auto CAD
- Assist and check design calculations performed by others
- Prepare geometric layouts, construction specifications, and material quantity calculations
- Ability to coordinate and communicate with other disciplines effectively
- Adherence to scope, schedule and budget for structure tasks
- Ability to support bridge and structure proposal development through strong technical writing
- Assists with proposal production and implementing marketing initiatives.
- May serve as the discipline lead responsible for all facets of the task or discipline of the project.
- Verifying that quality standards and project deadlines are met for tasks.
- Providing regular status reports to Project Manager.
- Build and maintain critical relationships within the organization and with clients such as the New Jersey Department of Transportation, New Jersey Turnpike Authority and the Port Authority of NY and NJ and New York clients.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with 7+ years of bridge related design experience. Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on Structures is desired.
- P.E. license in NJ. NY a plus.
- Prior internship experience with and understanding of AASHTO LRFD design and complex structural analysis software such Midas including and CSi Bridge is required.
- Familiarity with Auto CAD and Micro Station is also required.
- Experience with road and/or rail bridge rehabilitation design, seismic analysis, and rating analysis is desired. Additional transportation/infrastructure agencies located in the Northeast is also desired.
- Project involvement and management with multiple disciplines such as roadway, drainage, geotechnical, environmental, etc.
- Must have strong written and verbal communications, excellent organizational skills and strong design skills with a willingness to help with proposal efforts.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite is required.
