Location/Division Specific Information
The R&D Product Architect Desktop SEM will play an important role within the Thermo Fisher Scientific location in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. You will be part of the R&D XDB department, which develops Scanning Electron, Ion Beam, Failure Analysis and X-Ray spectroscopy solutions. The Desktop SEM team within this department develops compact, low-cost and easy to use Scanning Electron Microscope systems. Position
As R&D Product Architect Desktop SEM you will join a hardworking multi-disciplinary team of 30+ people. In this role, you will be the technical leader of the Desktop SEM portfolio, collaborating with multi-functional partners to ensure successful development of its product portfolio. You are end-to-end responsible for developing innovative, impactful systems and will lead the multi-disciplinary development teams from technical perspective. You will work closely with the project- and program-managers to define the roadmap, detailed technical scope of future products and are the technical owner within one or several product development projects. You will report directly to the Sr Manager R&D XDB Architecture.Tasks and responsibilities
- Translate marketing requirements and customer needs into system requirements, system architecture and system design.
- Identify key customer values and determine required technology for the portfolio.
- Define the product roadmap and interconnections with technology and module dependencies.
- Seek for R&D efficiency by improving re-use of functions from other product lines as well as continuously improve for obsolescence reduction and prevention.
- As a technical leader within projects, define the project and product in detail together with the Product Manager, Project Manager and specialists
- Initiate and guide technical investigation and improvement activities
- Optimally handle partners and ensure that the multi-discipline team
- Implement review processes and set clear expectations around the key results of the project.
Qualifications
We seek candidates that take initiative, are self-steering, self-confident and conceptual problem solvers. You have perseverance and are able to balance quality-, cost- and time aspects. You combine a strong analytical view with a pragmatic approach and can flex yourself in a dynamic product development environment. You are value oriented and able to set and act according to priorities at the same time.The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:
- Typically requires a University Degree in System, Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Physics Engineering or related field.
- Typically requires 7-10 years of work experience in a R&D environment, preferably in a high-tech sector.
- Proven track record in leading high-tech engineering projects through a defined project management process. Architecting experience within high-tech R&D environment is a plus.
- Ability to build consensus among internal and external project collaborators.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are required due to the multi-functional nature of this role.
- Proficient in English language (verbal and in writing)
- Affinity with Electron Microscopy, system and software engineering.
