is looking for:

Two Research Assistant Positions: Experiment Programming and Data Analysis in AI Speech and Lip-Sync Research

Department: Cognitive Sciences and Artificial intelligence
Location: Tilburg, the Netherlands
Contract size: 0.3 FTE (12 hours per week)
Full-time gross monthly salary based on fulltime employment: €. 2.715 – 2.951
Contract duration: 5 months.
Start date: November 15,2024, and January 15, 2025.

We are seeking two motivated and skilled student assistants to join a cutting-edge research project at the intersection of artificial intelligence and human-computer interaction. This project, titled “AI Lipsync”, is going to evaluate the accuracy of speech and lip movement synchronization in AI-agents and its Impact on user experience. We focus on investigating how advanced AI-driven lip-sync technology affects perception of realism, engagement, and trust in AI agents.

The study will involve EEG (Electroencephalogram) and eye-tracking techniques to measure human responses to audiovisual speech presented by both AI agents and human speakers. This research has important applications in fields like healthcare and education, where human-like AI agents could play a transformative role in communication and assistance.

Responsibilities

Programming and Experiment Setup: Assist in programming experimental tasks (using platforms like Python, MATLAB, or similar) to analyze speech and lip synchronization in AI agents.
Data Collection and Analysis: Support data acquisition using EEG and eye-tracking systems, as well as perform statistical analysis of the collected data.
Collaborate with the research team in designing and running the experiment for testing AI-human speech interactions.
Participate in literature reviews and contribute to the ongoing refinement of the neuropsychological model for predicting human brain responses to AI-driven speech.

Who can apply?
Students from Tilburg University who have obtained at least 60 ECTS credits.

Qualifications

Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or other similar tools.
Experience in data analysis, especially using EEG, eye-tracking, or related tools.
Background in computer science, cognitive science, psychology, or related fields.
Ability to work independently and in collaboration with an interdisciplinary research team.
