The Dunedin Botanic Garden is New Zealand's first Botanic Garden, established in 1863, and holds the status of six-star Garden of International Significance. Recognised for its extensive plant collections, native bush, city vistas and beautiful walks, the Botanic Garden team are responsible for the operations and management of the city's Garden, ensuring visitors are provided with an opportunity to enjoy all it has to offer.
The Dunedin City Council is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Botanic Garden Manager to lead our iconic Botanic Garden. As the Manager, you will oversee the strategic management, development, and promotion of the Garden, ensuring its continued excellence and global recognition. This is a fantastic opportunity for a dynamic leader with a passion for horticulture, sustainability, and community development.
The Botanic Garden Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Garden, including horticultural management, financial oversight, team leadership, and relationship building with mana whenua, key partners and community stakeholders. You will drive innovative programming and events for the community and ensure the Garden remains a vibrant space for education, recreation, and environmental stewardship.
Ideally you will have:
- A qualification or substantial practical experience in a relevant aspect of the horticultural industry
- Proven ability to lead, support and motivate staff to achieve strategic goals
- Experience in preparation of annual estimated, budgets, business plans and reports
- Proven ability to work with interest groups, individuals and other agencies in the community to achieve goals
- 5 weeks annual leave
