Expressions of interest are being sought for new candidates to be board members of the Charities Registration Board (the Board).
Summary of the Board
The Board was established under section 8 of the Charities Act 2005 (the Act) and is responsible for making decisions about the registration and de-registration of charitable entities.
The Board typically meets for one day every six weeks plus preparation time between one to two days, depending on the complexity of submissions.

The selection criterion includes:
- experience in public law decision making;
- legal and regulatory experience - understanding of charities and trust law;
- experience in governance and consensus-based decision-making;
- strong professional and personal qualities, including good communication skills;
- knowledge of te ao Māori, kaupapa Māori charities and the broader involvement of Māori in the charitable sector tikanga;
- an understanding of how to apply the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi/Te Tiriti o Waitangi in a governance role;
- awareness of New Zealand's diverse communities and the ability to appreciate different viewpoints; and
- knowledge and first-hand experience of the charitable and philanthropic sector.
