Mo tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role
We're on the lookout for a skilled and experienced communications professional to join our team to help tell the stories of Marlborough District Council’s environmental work programmes. You will support the Communications Manager and be instrumental in developing and implementing communications strategies and plans, assisting with media relations and providing up to date, accurate information to the public.

The content you create won't simply be updates on progress - you’ll also be able to develop engaging and effective communications strategies that explain and promote the full range of Council’s environmental programmes.

You will help enhance Council’s reputation through professional engagement with the community, deliver clear and effective communications, build great relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and collaborate with teams to produce effective information. It's a varied and creative role - the ability to juggle multiple pieces of work and quickly adapt to meet unexpected priorities is a must.

This is a fixed-term position which is anticipated to end 30 June 2025

Ko ngā wheako ōu | About you
You’ll have skills and experience in any combination of the following:

• A background in communications and engagement, journalism or marketing, preferably a minimum of 5 years.
• A relevant tertiary qualification
• Ability to interpret and translate technical information into everyday language
• Confidence in working with the media
• A community focus, with the ability to see things from the community’s perspective
• Experience working with on-the-ground teams to deliver good outcomes for the community across water, land, science and biodiversity programmes
