We are looking for someone incredible to join Specialist Mental Health Services, Canterbury as the Director of Lived Experience and Family/Whānau .
This role is a key member of the Divisional Leadership team, working in partnership with Mental Health leadership colleagues to support the provision of safe, compassionate & effective services that enable people with serious or acute mental disorders in their recovery
The Director of Lived Experience and Family-Whānau will ensure that the voice of lived experience and family-whānau is heard at all levels within SMHS, and will take the lead in developing a lived experience and family-whānau framework that informs, inspires and influences SMHS service delivery and the experience of those who access services
This role will specifically see you provide professional leadership to and management of the Lived Experience and Family-Whānau Advisory team; provide expert advice on the effective delivery of lived experience and family-whānau services within SMHS and support the growth of this key resource in line with contemporary consumer, lived experience and peer support practice.
As the Director of Lived Experience and Family-Whānau you will:
  • bring strong, effective representation of the Lived Experience and Family-Whānau voice to all levels of SMHS. As Director, you will ensure that the voice of lived experience is privileged in the design, delivery and evaluation of safe quality services.
  • Demonstrate a tangible commitment to and role modelling of professional development, standards and principals-based behaviour
  • Develop good team processes and constructive communication forums
  • Develop an annual workplan including active participation of the team in improvement initiatives
  • Manage recruitment, retention, personal development and performance management of the team within an allocated budget
This will be achieved through effective strategic alliances and partnerships with stakeholders and governance groups to strengthen services and improve health outcomes including development of links with local, regional and national lived experience and family-whānau advisory groups

To be successful in this role you will have personal lived experience or family-wh ā nau experience of accessing specialist mental health services . You will have a proven ability to apply your lived experience to mental health and addiction service development and delivery. You will have proven values-based leadership, demonstrating Manaakitanga to strengthen a positive culture and environment that values our staff and embodies compassion, hope and wellbeing. You will have experience in a strategic senior leadership position and leading change, and your leadership skills will ensure you are capable of managing and developing diverse professional teams in a challenging, complex environment.
