Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Te Tai Tokerau

Gastroenterologist – Northland, New Zealand

FULL TIME

August 1, 2024

Whangārei Hospital is seeking a specialist gastroenterologist to join Te Whatu Ora, Te Tai Tokerau. This is a full-time permanent position (1.0 FTE) with no on call or general medicine duties.
Whangārei Hospital is the largest hospital in Northland, providing secondary care services for the region supported by three district hospitals in Kaitaia; Bay of Islands and Dargaville. Northland covers an area of 12,600 square kilometres and has a growing population of more than 190,000.
Te Whatu Ora is committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and holds stewardship for equitable health outcomes for Māori as Tāngata Whenua as the highest priority.
Following the successful implementation of the national bowel screening program in Northland, we have an exciting opportunity for a third gastroenterologist to assist us in growing our progressive department. We are looking for someone who can help build a sustainable model for the management of gastrointestinal disease. You will be joining a department where there are strong collegial relationships between gastroenterology, surgery and medicine. We encourage self-development and are willing to offer a session weekly to pursue your sub-specialty interests. This could include time to develop new skills such as ERCP, advanced polyp removal, hepatology or develop a research interest. This will require approval by the clinical lead.
This role is based in Whangārei with opportunities to conduct gastroenterology outpatient clinics and procedures within our rural hospitals. We are looking for a motivated team player to bring their enthusiasm to teach and commitment to improving and developing services to meet our population need.
To be considered you must have or be eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand, in an Internal Medicine scope of practice. Ideally you will possess FRACP or an equivalent qualification; however, we are open to hearing from advanced trainees nearing completion of their training. For more information about the registration process please visit www.mcnz.org.nz
We offer a competitive relocation package to support you and your family to make the move to Northland. If you are currently overseas/ not yet registered, we can assist you with the application process to obtain MCNZ registration. Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand is also an Approved Accredited Employer by New Zealand Immigration.
To apply, please submit your application via the online application portal below. If you would like to discuss this role further please contact Dr Bryon Theron Byron.Theron@northlanddhb.org.nz
