Mō te tūnga | About the role
Kia ora! We are looking for a motivated, suitably skilled, and experienced person for the role of Kaihaumanu based in Kerikeri. In this role, you will work closely with local police staff, Te Pae Oranga teams across the Mid and Far North while building meaningful partnerships with the local iwi and hapū.
Te Pae Oranga (TPO) is primarily for people who commit low level offending where it is not in the public interest to prosecute but they do need to be held to account for their offending behaviour. Te Pae Oranga helps people to address their behaviours that are driving offending, thereby assisting to reduce their likelihood of reoffending.
Key Accountabilities:
Apply the concepts of whanaungatanga and tikanga Māori to problem solve and utilise organisational resources to the best effect.
Engage in frontline activities where a cultural perspective may assist progress toward resolution.
Identify innovative approaches to address whanau harm particularly where Māori Youth participate both as offenders and/or victims.
Assist in establishing and maintaining strong and effective partnerships between stakeholders, whanau, particularly those involving Māori and/or youth.
Engage in work with young people and whanau to identify and create opportunities for solutions to whanau harm.
Assess and assist with frontline activities/initiatives to achieve better outcomes for Māori, whanau and communities.

The successful applicant can expect to be:
Comfortable building and maintaining strong and effective working relationships with key iwi/Māori, across public service agencies, specific agencies, and providers including Iwi and Hapu networks to help support the kaupapa. and consults with all relevant stakeholders where necessary.
Capable of working and participating proactively in a kaupapa Māori and a Police environment.
Have views through a Te Ao Māori lens to assist and contribute to a culture that lifts and accelerates the wellbeing of Māori Every day you will be guided by the values of Whanaungatanga, Manaakitanga and Whakamana.
Whakaritenga motuhake | Special requirements
It is beneficial that applicants are competent in the use and understanding of Te Reo Māori me ona tikanga.
Have a basic understanding of the Principles of the Oranga Tamariki Act.
Hold a clean Full Class 1 NZ Driver License
A Core Children’s Worker security Check is required.

Utu ā-tau | Salary
This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $80K and $83K dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
