We're looking for a Senior Advisor and an Advisor to join our RM Policy and Spatial Planning team. This team plays a pivotal role in delivering the government's spatial planning objectives and providing critical support to the broader Resource Management (RM) work programme.
As part of this team, you'll be at the forefront of policy development that will shape how our cities, regions, and infrastructure evolve over the next decades. You'll have the opportunity to collaborate with key agencies, drive cutting-edge policy initiatives, and make a real impact on how New Zealand plans for its future.
Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with other agencies to advance spatial planning policy, including work on legislative design for spatial planning as part of Phase 3.
Partner with the Ministry's teams, other government agencies, and Infra Com – Te Waihanga to align spatial planning with key initiatives such as city and regional deals, the 30-year national infrastructure plan, NPS-infrastructure, and climate change adaptation.
Support other urban, infrastructure, and RM policy teams to ensure a flexible and integrated approach across the wider RM policy work programme.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

Understanding of machinery of government, strong written and oral communication skills, and experience in policy development.
Keen attention to detail.
For senior positions, skilled in mentoring and coaching junior team members and leading complex projects.
Ability to liaise across work programmes and agencies to ensure appropriate advice and information is provided to governance groups.
At senior level proven experience of clearly expressing complex programme processes and policy issues to support governance decisions.
Capable of working autonomously while also collaborating effectively.
Desirable but not critical - good understanding of RMA policy and/or practice, and specifically spatial planning practice.

Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range
Salary range for the role
Senior Policy Advisor - $108,976 to $132,277 p/a
Advisor - $79,598 to $96,372 p/a.
Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
