Position Purpose: The purpose of this position is to contribute to enhance the learning and
qualifications outcomes of Massey University’s students and the scholarly
programme of teaching, research and publication, undertaking
postgraduate research supervision, and by providing administrative and
professional service to the university and the broader academic,
professional and general communities.

About this area The School of Health Sciences is within the College of Health, Te Kura
Hauora Tangata. In line with the philosophy of hauora, we advocate for
improved health outcomes and our work influences national and
international health agendas. The School of Health Sciences includes staff
with expertise across a range of disciplines including Biomedical Sciences,
Public Health, Disability and Rehabilitation studies, Environmental Health,
Mental Health and Addiction, Health Promotion, and Occupational Health
and Safety.
Our research and teaching focuses on promoting health equity and
wellness and engaging in Te Tiriti o Waitangi-led practice. We have
expertise in health and social policy, clinical and bioactive substances,
Māori and Indigenous health, maternal and child health, healthy ageing,
mental health and addiction, epidemiology, and community health.

Teaching Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching via all modes
of teaching and delivery mediums, including through electronic and
on-line technologies.
Design and develop the academic and administrative content of
courses and design the appropriate assessment criteria and
processes.
Coordinate and administer the teaching delivery and assessment of
course 214202.
Teach in 214201 and 168733.
Ensure that all teaching is research-informed and relevant, and that
course materials are regularly updated.
Allocate and supervise the teaching and marking of tutors/senior
tutors, graduate assistants and technical support personnel.
Participate in the peer review of teaching to enhance the quality of
course design and delivery.
Arrange for regular student evaluations of teaching for all
papers/courses for which course -coordination responsibilities have
been assigned.
Be accessible to students by providing consultation time on course-
related matters.
Undertake teaching through distance education.
Supervision Contribute to the University degree completions and success by
supervising the research activities of undergraduate and
postgraduate students, including postgraduate research projects
and theses.
Research and Participation in team-based research as appropriate, to the level
Scholarship expected by the University’s Strategic Research Capability Policy.

journals and other publications.
Review research papers and other scholarly publications.
Contribute to School/Institute/University seminars and workshops.
Submit recent publications data to Research Management Services
for entry onto the Research Information Management System
(RIMS).
Periodically enter updated ‘Peer Esteem’ and ‘Contributions to the
Research Environment’ information onto RIMS.
Service
Service to the Community
Participate in community service activities that further advance the
profession or field and which are consistent with the University’s
charter and strategic goals.
Assist the School/Institute to develop and strengthen relationships
with professional and stakeholder communities as appropriate.
Contribute to the broader community and society through the
University’s obligations under the Education Act to fulfil “the role as
critic and conscience of society”.
Assist the School/Institute/University to develop an environment
which gives effect to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.
University Responsibilities
Serve on University and/or School/Institute committees.
Observe University policy and codes of practice in all teaching,
research, community service and administrative practices.
Contribute to the development of a School/Institute environment
that values teamwork, cooperation and collegiality.

Undertake other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
Qualifications: Relevant Ph D (or equivalent) or other post-graduate qualification.
Experience: Demonstrated teaching and research experience in a university or
other tertiary teaching environment.
Experienced in the use of electronic and on-line technologies in
blended and distance teaching delivery
