Te Tari Pūreke has been stood up as the firearms regulator in Aotearoa New Zealand and is the new place for people interested in the safe use and possession of firearms. Our vision is the possession and use of firearms in Aotearoa is the safest in the world. To achieve this, Te Tari Pūreke delivers four core functions: effectively implementing the firearms licensing system; managing the Firearms Registry; educating people to enable compliance with their legislative responsibilities; and promoting the safe use of legitimate firearms. We are committed to fostering a culture of safety and responsible firearms use by working collaboratively with the firearms community, other stakeholders, and agencies, to promote safety, responsible gun ownership, and licence holder awareness of their responsibilities of their responsibilities.

Mō te tūnga | About the role
To support the delivery of these outcomes you will provide analysis, advice and develop business intelligence capability. Specifically, contributing to the development and monitoring of organisational performance for Police by creating, analysing, and reporting quantitative information relating to district, service centre and national performance. You will be able to think critically about the data, adding value by appropriately conveying context and related factors to provide decision makers with insight and foresight.

You will contribute to the development, monitoring and maintenance of data sets used for both internal and externally released information. You will undertake analysis and reporting of information by the extraction and interpretation of data from various sources, applying rules that give meaning to data and mitigate limitations in source data, and testing resultant data sets and measures to ensure quality. You will work collaboratively and seamlessly with others in multi-disciplinary teams and specific project teams across the business to deliver integrated, high quality and innovative work.

Takohanga Matua | Key Accountabilities:
  • Develop and maintain high quality ‘intelligent’ data sets that mitigate data quality limitations in source systems, and thereby enable effective and trusted statistical information, performance measures, and reporting.
  • Proactively apply analytical thinking skills and insight to the analysis of our data; in particular, identifying significant patterns and changes in trends, and investigating these by analysing data and by communicating with relevant business groups, including districts and national groups.
  • Develop high-quality reporting to respond to priorities which meet clients’ needs.
  • Ensure reporting is timely, robust and meets the business need.
  • Assess customer needs, identifies issues and implements appropriate strategies.
  • Ensure all service requests are met with a professional, customer focused and timely response.
  • Work collaboratively and effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team within a dynamic environment.

Qualifications / Requirements:
  • A strong working knowledge of Excel is required, NIA, AIS, Genesys, Business Objects and Qlik experience would be advantageous.

Skills:
  • Use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make sound decisions and judgements.
  • Manage time, priorities and responsibilities for self and others.
  • Sound written and oral communication skills.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of analysing statistical information and developing statistical data sets.
  • Sound experience analysing statistical information within an operational environment would be an advantage.
  • Ability to seek clarity about outcomes and activities we are expected to deliver.

You will be based in either Wellington or Auckland City, with working from home options available for the preferred candidate. Positions also have flexible employment options.

We will ask you questions based on “How we will deliver Our Business – Core Competencies” and the appropriate role level.
Skills testing may be used at interview to assess data analysis and critical thinking abilities.

Utu ā-tau | Salary
This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $80,295.00 - $83,973.00 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
