Contract: Permanent, 0.5 FTE, 40 hours per fortnight, rostered shifts

About the Role:
We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Phlebotomist to join our Laboratory Services team on a permanent, part-time basis. As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for the collection of blood samples from patients across a wide variety of departments, including outpatient, inpatient, and emergency settings. You will be the face of the service for many patients, ensuring that the blood draw process is as comfortable and efficient as possible while maintaining the highest standards of quality and care. This role requires accuracy and professionalism, as the samples collected will be vital for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. You will also be expected to adhere to all relevant health and safety protocols and contribute to maintaining a clean, organized workspace.

About you:
We are seeking a candidate who is not only technically skilled but also has a warm and patient-centered approach to care. The ideal candidate will bring:
Certification in Phlebotomy or a relevant healthcare qualification, with demonstrated knowledge of best practices in blood collection and handling.
  • Experience in venipuncture and other blood collection techniques, including experience with a range of patients such as children, the elderly, and those with challenging veins.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to put patients at ease and explain procedures in a calm and reassuring manner.
  • Strong attention to detail, ensuring that all samples are correctly labelled, processed, and documented, adhering to all clinical guidelines and protocols.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure, especially during busy periods, while maintaining a high standard of care.
  • A commitment to teamwork and collaboration, as you will work closely with other healthcare professionals, including nurses, doctors, and laboratory technicians, to provide a seamless and effective service.
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations in a clinical setting, ensuring compliance with infection control procedures.
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth (mandatory)
  • Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings. (mandatory)
