Mō te tūnga | About the role

As the Principal Advisor you will support the development and delivery of organisational strategy ensuring the Assistant Commissioner for Tāmaki Makaurau and Northland is enabled to deliver Police and Government priorities and goals. You will be integral to supporting Tāmaki Makaurau Governance through delivering on robust practices. You will be required to provide advice on sensitive, strategic or risk areas to the Assistant Commissioner and the leadership team. You will produce, read and analyse policies, strategies, etc to consider all options and make recommendations on appropriate action. You will be required to establish and maintain good working relationships both internally and externally, including the Police Executive.

Key Accountabilities:
Provide direct support to the Assistant Commissioner Tāmaki Makaurau and Northland
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Executives internally and externally.
Develop and maintain partnerships at a national and district level.

To be successful in this role the Principal Advisor will:
Have experience in delivering organisational management strategy.
Have experience in engaging with diverse stakeholders.
Desirable experience and skills include advising and guiding senior leaders, emergency management, consulting, analysis, project/programme management and facilitation.
Be confident in identifying the root-cause of issues, co-designing solutions and implementing change.

Whakaritenga motuhake | Special requirements

Current CPK at the rank of Inspector (Constabulary only).

For both Constabulary & Police Employees:
Agree to enrol in the Strategic Leader Framework at a future date or

Have qualified under CEP or a previous Career Progression Framework at Inspector/Strategic Leader level.

This role is based in Tāmaki Makaurau. Some travel may be required.

This role is set at Strategic Leader level , this means your key purpose is “to lead the strategy, Our Business, and enable our people to deliver it”.

To be eligible for this role, you may be asked to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET national security clearance.

The minimum criteria for this level of national security clearance is:

NZ Citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or:

A Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or

A citizen of or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years : Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, or United States of America, and has a background that can be verified by the NZSIS.

Utu ā-tau | Salary

This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $153,652 and $158,773 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
