We are seeking a resource worker to join our pool of casual resource workers who provide continuous live-in care for our tamariki and rangatahi in locations across Tamaki Makaurau.
About the role
Ideal candidates for this role are strong, assertive individuals who are driven to making a difference for our tamariki and rangatahi. This role can sometimes see you facing some difficult situations so it's important for us to hire the right candidate who has a calm demeanour, is patient when faced with potentially challenging behaviour and who understands the needs of tamariki and rangatahi.
The mahi you will do could include the following:
- Day to day care of tamariki and rangatahi
- Providing emotional support to vulnerable tamariki
- Transporting tamariki to and from education, health and other appointments and activities
- Working in an Oranga Tamariki family home (including weekend work)
- Meal preparation, cleaning and domestic work to ensure a clean and safe living environment and maintaining a comfortable nurturing environment.
- Ensuring the day to day running of the household including errands and grocery shopping
- Responsibility for completing weekly summaries for each tamariki and incident reports as required
- Providing support or respite cover for family home caregivers
What you will bring:
- Availability to live-in and work for days in succession of up to one week
- Empathy, patience and ability to see through behaviours, to acknowledge what a tamariki may be struggling with
- Experience working with tamariki and rangatahi with varied needs
- A clean, current full drivers licence and confidence driving a van
- Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to adapt to your audience
- Flexibility in working different hours and days at short notice
- Open and adaptable to an environment that is always changing
- A calm and professional manner
- Excellent listening, oral, written and observation skills
- Proficient in using Microsoft outlook and experience using other computer based systems
- Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices, in particular, knowledge of tikanga Maori and Pasifika culture.
