As the Te Pouwhirinaki Māori, (Manager Māori Electorates), you will lead the development and delivery of voting services across Māori electorates in Aotearoa, ensuring the voice of contemporary Māori is central to the design and implementation of electoral events. You will collaborate with Māori, iwi, hapū and whānau to increase voter participation, and work with the Electoral Commission's leadership team to align operational delivery with strategic goals. Your leadership will ensure that voting services meet the unique needs of Māori communities, respecting local language and culture.
This is a Grade 19 role with a Salary band of $145,877- $162,086

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and deliver voting services across Māori electorates, ensuring cultural competency and responsiveness to local needs.
  • Collaborate with Strategic Engagement and Partnerships teams to build strong relationships with Māori, iwi, and hapū, enhancing electoral participation.
  • Work closely with Electorate and Regional Managers to ensure accurate and timely results.
  • Develop and implement future-focused operational plans for Māori electorates, incorporating feedback from communities and stakeholders.
  • Ensure recruitment and training for Māori Electorate Managers, embedding kaupapa Māori practices throughout the electoral process.
  • Apply Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles to support Crown-Māori relationships and foster strong partnerships.

You are an experienced leader with a passion for empowering Māori communities and fostering participation in Aotearoa's electoral processes. Your expertise in managing large-scale programmes and projects, combined with a deep understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, makes you the ideal candidate for this role. You have a proven track record of working in partnership with Māori, iwi, and hapū, and are committed to developing culturally responsive services that reflect the diverse needs of Māori across Aotearoa. Your leadership style is inclusive, collaborative, and you thrive in building and maintaining positive relationships.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
  • Proven experience leading operational delivery in complex, large-scale events or programmes, with a focus on Māori communities.
  • Strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and demonstrated ability to apply its principles in practice.
  • Experience building partnerships with iwi, hapū, and Māori organisations.
  • Ability to design and implement operational plans that are culturally responsive and future-focused.
  • Expertise in recruiting, developing, and managing teams to deliver high-quality services.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to managing challenges.
