We’re looking for someone to lead, inspire and share with the team their passion for home furnishing & visual merchandising. As our first Interior Visual Merchandising Manager for IKEA Sylvia Park, New Zealand, you will share with the many New Zealanders the IKEA brand, visual identity and how our home furnishing solutions help the many people to create a better everyday life at home in New Zealand.

You are inspired, motivated and driven to position IKEA as a leading home furnishing retailer in New Zealand. You are solution-focused and believe in challenging and finding new ways to inspire our visitors and co-workers with interior design solutions that meet and exceed their needs and dreams through the store layout & range presentation. You are an inspirational leader with strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence and drive the growth agenda alongside your commercial partners. Together with your Sales partners you design and create vital and creative home furnishing solutions and displays that strengthen our commercial activities. You are confident in communicating, influencing, and coaching others, you continually seek new opportunities to improve the way we work, and encourage your team to do so. You have a passion for leading with integrity and authenticity and have the ability to champion IKEA values and encourage your team to embody these principles in their daily work. You are curious and confident with digital tools and are able to find opportunities where digital advancements and solutions can support the retail environment and customer satisfaction. You have clear technical strengths, with experience working with design software and production tools including Revit, In Design, Illustrator and/or Photoshop.

About this work area

As Visual Merchandising Manager your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Contributing to positioning IKEA in New Zealand as the first choice for home furnishings.
  • Providing home furnishing solutions for a single product or a combination of products to help New Zealanders improve their life at home.
  • Demonstrating the advantages of the IKEA product range and its uniqueness (form, function, quality, low-cost sustainability) through your visual merchandising skills and display techniques across different media and activity areas to make us stand out from the competition.
  • Working with vitality to motivate people to visit the IKEA store more frequently.
  • Securing the use of the store layout as a commercial tool to plan and implement commercial strategies throughout the market while creating a natural & commercial flow for our visitors, with a strong visual impact.
  • Support your leadership team in managing the recruitment, retention, performance management, succession planning and competence development of the team.

A little more about the job
  • We may be experts in flatpacks, but it is your expertise in the following we are looking for:
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a visual merchandising role within a large retail organisation. With at least 2 years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Highly regarded to have experience in design software, Revert.
  • Excellent communication skills, and ability to inspire, coach and develop people and secure succession to bring together a high performing team that can contribute to business goals.
  • Cultural competency and the ability to integrate equality, diversity, and inclusion practices within a workplace.


What you need to know
  • This role is permanent full time.
  • The salary range for this position is $95,000 – $110,000 gross New Zealand dollars, not including superannuation/pension.
  • The work location for this role is IKEA Sylvia Park and external warehouse.
  • Internal the job title for this role is Shop Design Manager.
  • As our store operates 7 days per week, you must have the availability to work a rotating roster. You also have the availability to work 1 weekend shift per month (both Saturday and Sunday).
  • As part of the recruitment process this role requires a pre-employment check for final candidates.
