Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Associate Lawyer with 2-4 years of post-qualification experience to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have experience in general corporate law, litigation, or dispute resolution, and possess strong analytical, research, and communication skills. This role will involve working closely with senior lawyers on a diverse range of legal matters and supporting clients across multiple industries.
Responsibilities
Legal Research & Analysis: Conduct comprehensive legal research and provide strategic analysis on relevant cases, statutes, and legal precedents.
Client Consultations: Attend meetings with clients to discuss case details, gather necessary documentation, and offer preliminary legal advice under supervision.
Document Drafting: Prepare, review, and amend contracts, agreements, legal pleadings, and other legal documents as required by cases or transactions.
Litigation Support: Assist in preparing for litigation by gathering evidence, preparing case files, and drafting motions, pleadings, and other court submissions.
Corporate and Commercial Law: Support senior lawyers in structuring corporate transactions, conducting due diligence, and drafting shareholder agreements, partnership agreements, and related documentation.
Dispute Resolution: Participate in mediation, arbitration, and other alternative dispute resolution processes as required by case assignments.
Legal Compliance & Advisory: Advise clients on regulatory compliance issues, including labor, tax, and corporate governance matters in Nigeria.
Court Representation: Represent clients in court as required, under the guidance of senior counsel.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with other team members, providing assistance as needed and ensuring that all client matters are managed efficiently and effectively.
Requirements
Educational Qualification: LL.B. from a recognized university; a call to the Nigerian Bar is mandatory.
Experience: 2-4 years of post-qualification experience in a reputable law firm or corporate legal department.
Legal Skills: Proficiency in drafting legal documents, litigation processes, and corporate and commercial law.
Research Proficiency: Strong legal research skills with the ability to interpret and apply Nigerian laws effectively.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present cases and information clearly.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research databases.
Interpersonal Skills: Strong organizational and teamwork abilities, with a professional attitude and attention to detail.
Preferred Skills and Experience
Litigation or Transactional Experience: Demonstrated expertise in litigation, corporate law, and/or dispute resolution.
Client Management Skills: Experience managing client relationships and handling confidential information responsibly.
Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with key regulatory frameworks in Nigeria, particularly in corporate, tax, labor, and compliance-related matters.
