About the position
A postdoctoral position is available for the period 01.12.2024 - 30.11.2026 in the laboratory for Cell transplantation and Tissue Engineering (lead by Professor Hanne Scholz) at Department of Transplantation Medicine and Institute for Surgical Research, Oslo University Hospital (OUS), Rikshospitalet. The project is funded by grants from Helse Sør-Øst.

Work tasks
The researcher will work on the projects “Decidual stromal cells for treatment of patients with type 1 diabetes” and “stem cell derived islets”. The group focuses on improving clinical islet transplantation for patients with severe type 1 diabetes with clear objectives of clinical translation based on the experimental research conducted. The group is composed of members with multidisciplinary knowledge (transplant surgery, endocrinology, basic research, stem cell biology, and cellular therapy). Dr. Scholz is also a principle investigator in the Centre of Excellence - Hybrid Technology Hub at Ui O aiming to develop an open source “organ on a chip” metabolic platform that allows for in vitro evaluation of drug discovery. There will be overlap and close interaction with this project.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is exceptionally self-driven and adept at both independent work and collaborative efforts within a team setting. The candidate has strong work ethics and is focused on delivering high-quality data. Potential candidates should hold a Ph.D degree in life- or biomedical sciences, or a related discipline.

The candidate must have at least two of the following skills:

  • Extensive experience with cell culturing, molecular biology, genetic engineering, and organoid technology
  • Experience from working stem cell differentiation to beta cells (insulin producing cells)
  • Knowledge of methods required for assessing metabolism disorders such as diabetes and implementing beta cell replacement therapies
  • It is an advantage to have experience with small animal models
