Project Assistant (Migration, Environment and Climate Change)

Context
Under the overall supervision of the Head of Satellite Office in Zamboanga City and the direct administrative supervision of the National Transition and Recovery Project Officer, and with technical guidance from the Sr. MECC Project Assistant in Cotabato, the successful candidate will support the coordination and implementation of projects and activities that aim to prevent violence, exploitation, and abuse against migrants, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and vulnerable individuals and protect those affected or at-risk from human rights violations, including but not limited to trafficking, forced labour, and modern slavery, in Mindanao, more specifically in Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi (Ba Sul Ta) and Zamboanga Peninsula in line with IOM’s policies, standards and commitments. Given the local context, s/he is expected to actively promote approaches and initiatives that are responsive to triple risk factors of conflict, environment and/or climate change and consider the linkage of these factors with human mobility.
Responsibilities
- Support the identification, coordination and liaison with relevant local government and non-government stakeholders in Ba Sul Ta and Zamboanga Peninsula.
- Assist the Sr. MECC Project Assistant in mainstreaming effective approaches to migrant protection and to addressing the triple challenges of climate change, conflict and Trafficking in Persons (Ti P).
- Assist in planning and organizing local meetings, consultations, workshops, and other project activities, including support to the preparation of presentations, meeting documents, meeting minutes and reports.
- Prepare, in coordination with Sr. MECC Project Assistant, official communication and updates for briefings with local government and partners on climate change, environment and migration related matters.
- Support the coordination, implementation, and monitoring of field activities and inform the Sr. MECC Project Assistant of challenges and corrective actions needed on the ground.
- Gather and verify data and information relevant to climate and conflict related migration, displacement and planned relocation from news, academic and governmental sources and assist in regular information sharing with IOM’s MECC team, partners and stakeholders.
- Assist in the monitoring, evaluation and reporting of migration protection and assistance, including migration, environment, and climate change projects and activities, by completing monitoring templates, drafting reports, and keeping the project database and documents up to date.
- Perform various administrative and clerical tasks such as preparing the necessary logistics and procurement arrangements, activity materials and documents.
- Support the operationalization of Accountability to Affected Population (AAP) framework for IOM's programming in Mindanao; and contribute to execution of risk mitigation measures in Mindanao programming including Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA).
- Undertake duty travel as required and perform other tasks as may be assigned.
University degree in Political or Social Sciences, Migration Management, Climate Change, Sustainable Development, Refugee and Migration Studies, International Relations, Law, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with at least three years of relevant professional experience; or
School diploma with minimum five years of relevant professional experience.
Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
- Experience in liaising with governmental authorities and local communities, as well as national and regional institutions;
- Experience in project development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation and reporting;
- Experience in developing communications materials and leading social media updates;
- Experience in working in a multi-partner or regional project and with UN agencies is an advantage;
- Prior experience working for IOM, a UN agency is an advantage.
- Demonstrated expertise in climate change, environmental issues and/or disaster risk reduction;
- Knowledge or experience of national issues and Pacific level issues an advantage;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.

- This selection process may be used to staff similar positions in various duty stations. Recommended candidates will remain eligible to be appointed in a similar position for a period of 24 months.

Contract length: 6 months
Pay: Php66,664.00 per month
