We are offering a 12-month paid Internship as Analysis Officer support with the possibility of permanent employment thereafter. The candidate will start as soon as possible based in our Somerset West office. The position entails assisting the Analysis Officer in the evaluation of analysis results performed on products to determine the compliance with the requirements of different organic certification schemes. Initial training will be focussed on the National Organic Program and the EU 2018/848 organic standard.
Your tasks
You will be responsible to assist the current Analysis Officer with carrying out the following duties:

Your tasks
You will be responsible to assist the current Analysis Officer with carrying out the following duties:
- Interpret analysis results
- Check the admissibility of results
- Evaluate substance(s) detected on the product (towards its characteristics, the operator activity and certification history, the scheme requirements, the evaluation performed…) to determine the compliance with requirements, or preliminary to set-up hypothesis to confirm
- Issue interpretation conclusion regarding extend and origin of substance detected, related non-compliance, eventual additional action (evaluation, precautionary measure…)

Coordinate actions related to interpretation
- Agree with the relevant internal staff in charge of evaluation and certification on the action to perform

Maintain communication with authorities and other certification bodies
- Answer notifications received about substance detected in collaboration with relevant internal staff
- Coordinate with relevant internal staff the preparation of the report/information requested by authorities

Follow-up laboratories of the area
- Be technical day to day point of contact
- Define lists of substances to analyse according to product
- Regular evaluation of the service performed and issue annual quality evaluation report

Provide support to internal staff
- Provide advice, recommendation, and eventual appropriate tool to support evaluation staff on risk assessment per product and area, sampling method to apply, sampling plan to perform, dedicated evaluation to perform
- Give advice and recommendation to certification staff on certification decision, operator request and communication related to analysis result
- Provide technical information about substance detected and/or to analyse
Provide technical training about sampling, substance, analysis, and laboratory
Profile
Education: BSc in Chemistry, BAgric, or relevant tertiary qualification. Additional courses completed like AVCASA would be beneficial.
Language: Multilingual (English and Afrikaans) both spoken and written.
Experience: Any interest/experience in the agricultural (in particular organic/sustainable) sector would be beneficial as well as experience in laboratory work involving MRL’s.

What’s in it for you?
Remuneration: This is a paid internship. Market related, dependent on experience and qualifications.
Type of contract: Internship (12-month contract)
Benefits: Partial remote working as agreed by your manager
But also…: Should the internship successfully lead to a permanent position the following will be applicable: 60% medical aid contribution for you and your dependants + life- and disability insurance. When working permanently more than 6 months you will become eligible for a performance bonus based on the level of achievement of your annual objectives.
