Job description

The Centre for Academic Technologies (CAT) at the University of Johannesburg provides dynamic leadership, training and support within the burgeoning and exciting field of technology at the service of tertiary education. This domain includes a wealth of possibilities within teaching with technology, learning with technology, online and blended programmes, learning management systems and associated software.

Responsibilities:

As the Director of CAT, you will be expected to:

Manage and lead CAT in alignment with the UJ 2035 Strategic Plan.
Lead, innovate and promote the use of technologies in teaching and learning.
Manage an effective, cohesive, and dynamic team.
Collaborate with Faculties/College on shared projects in pursuit of global excellence in teaching and learning.
Collaborate with other Service Divisions in pursuit of seamless inter-divisional service projects.
Integrate CAT projects and services with the entire Division of ADS.
Drive student support through learning analytics.
Lead special projects related to teaching and learning with technologies.

Minimum requirements

A doctoral degree (Ph D).
At least 5-10 years’ experience teaching and working in the Higher Education (HE) environment in South Africa.
Demonstrate excellence and experience within teaching and learning.
Demonstrate in-depth knowledge about the possibilities and impacts of technology in teaching and learning.
Experience with pedagogies of both blended learning and online learning.
Statistical and analytical abilities.
Management experience.
Research experience and outputs.
Experience with a learning management system (preferably Moodle).

Excellent knowledge of relevant legislation and developments within the HE sector.

Recommendations:

Considerable experience in the HE sector, teaching and learning, research, and insight into the possibilities of education technologies.
