Field and Plant Quality Coordinator
Main Purpose
- Collaborate with our Warehouse, Field- and Plant Production teams to help create processes and incorporate quality procedures that continuously deliver high-quality seed that meet regulatory, business and customers needs
- Will be responsible for effective management and control of the quality assurance function to ensure compliance with best agronomy practices, supply of quality and adequate foundation and certified seed volumes.
- Oversee, develop, coach and mentor a team of seed processing personnel that are collectively focused on ensuring compliance with quality standards. Continuous improvement of the programs to improve customer satisfaction and overall customer experience through the implementation and sustainability of the Quality Assurance programs.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
- Lead development, implementation, and continuous improvement of processes driving expected product quality outcomes.
- Develop and manage an effective quality assurance system that covers field seed production, processing plant and warehouse procedures.
- Coach the production team and related staff in the field, dryer and plant to ensure that quality standards are not only met but adhered to and exceeded.
- Carry out farm visits and field inspections prior and during the growing season to ensure the seed is produced in accordance with the internal quality standards and Seed Certification Scheme
- Responsible for reporting quality metrics including incidents with analysis and improvements identified and implemented.
- Assisting field managers in the planning phase to select the best growers and fields for optimal seed production.
- Implement work plans and procedures to maximize performance, quality and operational efficiency to achieve company goals.
- Prepare regular reports summarizing Quality testing results and proposed actions for follow up.
- Responsible for transparent, regular and effective communication with all stakeholders through-out the end-to-end production process, from batch selection up to final product.
- Ensure that tools and equipment used by QA are properly calibrated, operated, and maintained.
- Ensure all personnel staff understand their roles, company expectations, quality processes, and product specifications regarding all product quality related matters
- Lead staff training when appropriate to ensure staff members understand quality standards and procedures.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Compile and process data to publish the monthly Quality dashboard.
- Manages the customer complaints that are raised for the plant through investigations, identification and closure of corrective actions and communication.
- Responsible for all Field- and Plant quality operations and seed storage conditions and ensure final product delivered meet regulatory, business and customer needs.
- Continuously monitor plant production processes from receiving to final product to ensure that a high standard of quality is maintained.
- Responsible for end-to-end, in-process quality sample taking, processing, analyses and reporting of quality metrics.
- Responsible for collection of reliable samples from the plant, the analyses of such by QT to allow pro active remedial actions where necessary and the application of such data for continual improvement for processing activities.
- Responsible for the effective operating, managing and expanding/improving of the plant lab.
- Actively Participates in plant operations such as conditioning, packaging, warehouse / inventory management / distribution, carryover while ensuring all equipment are calibrated and records maintained
- Responsible for: Sample submission, SAP data entry, management and review for completeness and validity as necessary, lot linkage and tag printing.
- Ensure lot examination has been done, hopper and machine inspection, processing floor inspection, label and bags inspections for correctness, seed treatment inspection for uniformity and linking lot/batches per the government/internal regulations/procedures.
- Motivate employees to wear the correct PPE
- Follow Safety operations procedures
- Report all accidents or incidents immediately
- Participate in identifying hazards
- Participate in Tier meetings and monthly Health and Safety Meetings
- Maintain a safe and orderly environment
- Upon request participate in emergency response teams
- and any other safety or health group established by the site
- Participate in all required HSE trainings and educations
- Participate in all emergency drills
Qualifications & Competencies
- Bachelor's degree with focus in agronomy or related field
- 3-5 years' experience in seed industry in production related operations will be an advantage.
- SANSOR certification and sampling authorization a prerequisite.
- ISO 9001:2018 knowledge and auditing skills
- Ability to interpret and analyze data sets using Statistical tools.
- Excellent interpersonal/communication skills are required to develop strong working relationships across various functions to enhance teamwork and a good working environment.
- Proven ability to make timely decisions, solve problems and build consensus.
- Knowledge of the principles and practical applications associated with seed production operations.
- Strong organization and communication skills, attention to detail and ability to set appropriate boundaries with staff and customers.
- Demonstrates ability to use metrics to guide continuous improvement of the quality management system.
- Exhibit a high degree of ethical conduct and discretion. Exercise good judgement and always exemplify professional behavior with accountability, integrity and follow-through.
