Purpose of the Position
As a trusted partner and advisor who understands the enterprise, its strategy and customers, the HOD of Business management proactively collaborates with and supports the business to:

? Developing and implementing a strategic vision for the department, including establishing goals, objectives, and key performance indicators.
? Building and leading a high-performing team of data and analytics professionals, including defining roles and responsibilities, providing coaching and mentorship, and managing resource allocation.
? Ensuring the department is effectively leveraging data and analytics technologies, such as data warehousing, business intelligence, and machine learning, to drive insights and inform decision-making.
? Building partnerships with other departments and stakeholders to drive data-driven decision-making across the organization.
? Managing department budgets and ensuring that the department is operating efficiently and effectively.
? Representing the department in key meetings and presentations, communicating the value of data and analytics to stakeholders, and promoting the department's vision and mission.
? Staying up-to-date with the latest industry trends and best practices in data and analytics, and ensuring the department is adapting and evolving to meet changing business needs.Integrate diverse data and insights to shape business priorities and decisions that make the right strategic business and customer impacts and that unlock business value to enhance the customer experience and drive business growth
? Leverage insights and business knowledge to influence the prioritisation and focus of the delivery teams, in collaboration with the Product Owner
? Drive an insights-driven culture supported by the necessary capabilities
? Strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to think strategically and make data-driven decisions, are essential for success in this role.

? Validates accuracy, completeness and relevance of information to drive decisions that solve business needs
Value management
? Creates business value through enhancing the customer experience and ultimately growing the business
? Leverages data and customer insights to identify and shape business enhancing, innovative opportunities
? Translates insight-based opportunities into tangible business actions that are implemented within the business
? Supports business in identifying key actions required to realise business value
? Supports business with adoption of value management and tracks value realisation in conjunction with Product Owners
Solution delivery
? Collaborates with the Product Owner to guide the business in ensuring delivery teams are continuously focused on the highest impact opportunities
? Prioritises the focus of delivery teams, in collaboration with the scrum master, as the context and needs of the business evolve
? Packages and clearly communicates business requirements into succinct stories and solutions for delivery teams to action
? Continuously evaluates and guides implementation progress to ensure products truly achieve value for the business
Analytics driven culture
? Drive an insights-driven culture through continuous awareness, education and adoption of data and analytics in the organisation
? Ensures the organisation uses insights to inform all decisions and strategies
? Ensures the business is aware of new innovations, technologies and solutions available and has the confidence to use them
? Plays a supportive role in identifying skills and capability gaps both in business and in delivery teams
People Management
? Manage team members to ensure effective delivery of business unit objectives
? Develop a high performing team by embedding formal performance development and informal coaching
? Encourage frequent knowledge sharing between team members
? Determine and analyse development needs for the team and ensure that identified training requirements are budgeted for and executed
? Interview and recruit new members of the team, including determining appropriate compensation levels with input from HR
? Create effective workforce and recruitment demand plans to ensure that current and future business requirements can be met
? Review and update the department’s organisation structure and role descriptions on at least an annual basis to ensure that they are fit for purpose and contain all the accountabilities of each team member
? Approve leave requests for team members and create a leave plan to ensure adequate coverage
? When required, initiate disciplinary processes for team members calling on HR for support
? Resolve grievances raised by team members and escalate only if required
? Address poor performance of any team member through the formal Performance Improvement Programme and ensure that continued poor performance is appropriately dealt with
? Motivate team members and ensure that their efforts are recognised
Qualifications
? A Degree or equivalent NQF Level 8 Qualification in an analytical field, e.g. Informatics, Data Science, Commerce
? A Post Graduate qualification is preferred or equivalent NQF Level 8
? An MBA is advantageous

Experience
? Overall experience of 8+ years in related fields
? 5 years in business analysis and analytics/BI (understanding and delivering business insights)
? Minimum 5 years management experience (dealing with executive-level stakeholders and commercial issues)
? Experience in a consulting environment in a relevant commercial business area would be advantageous
? Minimum 1 year product management and agile delivery experience (SAFe methodology advantageous)
? Azure data services and Power BI
