Business Unit & Section: Namakwa Sands Smelter, Maintenance

Primary Location: Smelter Operations (Saldanha)

Position Summary

Responsible for Maintenance Engineer functions, as below at the smelter site and will be reporting to the Maintenance Manager.

Qualification & Experience

• BEng Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; or BTECH Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Mandatory),
• Grade 12/ Standard 10/N3 with Maths and Science (Mandatory)
• GCC (Factory - Electrical or Mechanical) (Added Advantage)
• Driver's License (Mandatory)

Knowledge & Skills

• RWM (Routine Work Management Processes) & Asset management
• Hazard identification, Risk assessment, RCFA / RCM facilitated and implemented,
• Procurement, Contract and Project Management Experience within a heavy industry/ production / mining environment (Mandatory)
• Computer Literacy (Mandatory)
• 3-5 years

Job Responsibilities

• Support the Electrical and Mechanical maintenance processes (RWM)
• · Approve and assist with installation of Electrical and Mechanical equipment to comply with regulatory
• · Develop and maintain equipment maintenance strategies by applying reliability centered Maintenance principles/ methodology
• Is a leading player in developing maintenance budgets, monitoring/controlling maintenance costs to find opportunities for improvement
• Champion's idea generation within team
• Assist to ensure plant modifications are adequately risk assessed through management of change
• Technical support for repair methods for installed equipment and rotables - expert in diagnosing faults and repairing equipment
• Support supervisors & artisans performing difficult or major maintenance work and responding to critical equipment faults
• Troubleshooting equipment breakdowns (i.e. resource for the Maintenance Supervisors)
• Conduct equipment Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA problem solving) & support with action close-outs
• Partners with the Maintenance Supervisors to support improvement in RWM quality and efficiency
• Acts as a relief for other leaders in the Maintenance Organization
• Perform engineering design calculations as needed
• Supports the Rotables/Repairable team by defining the repair scopes (in conjunction with vendor) and definition and development of repair procedures
• Manages replacement or small to medium execution improvement projects, either capital or opex expense
• Identifies improvement opportunities with Maintenance teams and drives these projects to completion
• Assists in responses for emergencies, unplanned problems and repairs
• Implement minor plant optimization projects
• Performance Management and Performance reviews
• Actively participate in teams training and development

• Provides Technical support to production, maintenance management and technical personnel as required.
• Applies value analysis to repair/replace, repair/design, and make/buy decisions.
• Utilize RCM process for existing and new equipment.

Production Efficiency

• Ensure operational efficiency and quality.
• Assume responsibility for coordinating first line maintenance to limit plant / equipment downtime.
• Control stock levels (where applicable)
