Job Profile Summary
We have a great opportunity for an experienced leader in corporate banking to join the Corporate Sector Lending (“CSL”) team which is part of the Lending Department within ING Bank N.V., Seoul Branch (“CSL Seoul”) and the global ING Wholesale Banking Lending organisation. The CSL Team Head is responsible for the large corporates loan portfolio of ING in Seoul and leads a small team in which role he/she carries final responsibility for all transactions of the team, the quality (accuracy and timeliness) of the credit applications for the CSL portfolio and the continuous monitoring of the loan portfolio for which the team is the P&L owner.
CSL Seoul is one of the key teams at the heart of ING Wholesale Banking in the country. We provide banking services and complex financing solutions to corporate clients, working closely with our coverage team and play a key role in supporting the delivery of banking services to our clients. Job Responsibilities:
Origination and Business Development
  • Main scope of corporate clients includes large South Korean diversified corporations across a range of industries (including Construction, Services, Manufacturing, Electronics and Retail) and the Korean subsidiaries of ING corporate clients based in Asia, Europe or the US.
  • The team also actively supports our dedicated Sector Coverage teams for lending transactions in Korea in sectors such as FI, Commodities, Food & Agriculture, Energy, Transportation and Logistics and TMT & Healthcare.Work closely with our coverage teams in Seoul to originate and expand our business with prospective and existing clients, with a focus on offering lending products.
  • Advise corporate clients on the best structure for their borrowings in client meetings and calls and negotiate the terms of loans offered by the bank to our clients.
  • Establish and strengthen ING’s market presence and enhance its profile through effective internal and external communication.
  • Work with counterparts in other countries and with ING’s sector and other product experts, notably in Financial Markets and Transactions Services (trade financing activities).
Lending Execution and Portfolio Management
  • Manage the credit approval process for lending, trade finance and financial market limits, ensuring follow-up on post-approval conditions and covenants where the CSL team head acts as the main point of entry for the Risk Manager.
  • Responsible for the negotiation of loan documentation and trade finance documentation with clients, in close collaboration with the coverage team, Risk and Legal (if required, with outside legal counsel)
  • Ensure appropriate portfolio management through monitoring of the performance of companies in the portfolio, including identifying Early Warning Signals for a deterioration in credit quality and performing annual reviews. This includes responsibility for the quality of his/her credit files (costs, actual losses (co-responsibility), data quality, effectiveness, accuracy/efficiency, timeliness).
  • Keep track of market developments for lending in the jurisdictions and/or sectors covered to be able to adapt and respond to current events and changes in market circumstances.
Business Management and Team Leadership
  • Performance management of the team, including target setting and mid- and year-end performance reviews.
  • Responsible for meeting performance targets (both financial and non-financial), including revenue generation and cost control and to work in conjunction with the Head of Lending in Seoul to achieve the KPIs for the broader Lending team.
  • To lead the team and guide and develop team members. Ensures the team is working effectively and look after its continuity and succession. Drive employee engagement.
  • Overseeing and being accountable for the team’s quality of work.
  • To comply with (and make sure the team complies with) relevant credit and non-financial risk policies as well as other policies and regulations, as per the bank’s 3LOD governance framework.
  • To ensure that business activities are conducted in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations.
  • Change management, where required under relevant WB transformation/change strategies.
  • Act as the single point of contact for lending related projects, policy changes, etc. and communicate to all other lending teams within the branch as/when required.
What we're looking for:
  • University degree major in business/economics, law or relevant business discipline.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience with proven track record in in relationship management, corporate lending, credit risk or structured finance.
  • Strong negotiating, relationship management and sales / presentation skills.
  • Strong clients focus and proven ability in stakeholder management (both internally and externally).
  • Result oriented, comfortable with driving financial performance, such as revenues, fees, and returns.
  • Strategic thinking skills, with ability to synthesize broad information quickly and cogently.
  • Strong analytical skills (financial/credit) and an eye for detail.
  • Is self-motivated, “Hands-on” and possesses a positive and “can do” attitude.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to handle pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Team player with good interpersonal skills.
  • Effective communicator who is fluent in English.
  • A drive and passion to make change and progress by sharing knowledge and by always looking for the next step to enhance efficiencies in the credit process and driving their implementation and ability to adjust to dynamic business environment.
