Grow with us
Every generation of mobile communications has increased the compute needs in the networks, as these are to meet stringent performance and energy efficiency requirements to realize the envisioned use cases for 6G and the generations to come. This gives rise to more traffic driven by these demanding use cases, as well as more complexity yielding sub-optimally solved algorithms using current compute technologies.
We are looking for a creative and thorough researcher who will investigate alternative computing paradigms, focusing on optimized and energy efficient solutions, to sustain the compute, energy saving, and financial demands of the evolving mobile networks. More concretely, the position will focus on evaluating what new algorithms will solve the challenging telecom use cases using the emerging compute technologies, such as Quantum Compute or Neuromorphic (to name a couple), to realize a more cost- and energy-efficient network infrastructure.
Ericsson Research
Ericsson Research provides the Ericsson group with exploratory and ground-breaking research, advanced system concepts, novel technology, and new methodologies. World-class innovation is achieved through cooperation within Ericsson, together with partners, customers, universities, and research institutes. Ericsson Research incorporates hundreds of enthusiastic contributors all over the world and is organized by specialty, with topics including such rapidly evolving areas as radio, networking, compute & software, security, AI, and many others.
What you will do:
- You will need to have the capability to identify the challenging, relevant use cases in the telecom domain. This in turn will require a knowledge of the mobile networks and the product portfolio at Ericsson.
- As the networks are in constant evolution, new challenges will arise and hence you will need to upskill and reskill regularly.
- You will interact with other experts at the business units to understand their pain points and issues.
- You will be aware of the new compute technologies and will develop the knowledge and skills to identify whether a new technology can be used/adapted in telecom.
- You will be required to have the ability to learn new things that may not be in your area of expertise. Currently, the technologies that are been investigated at Ericsson Research are Quantum Computing and Neuromorphic; but in the future, these could change based on the demands of the telco use cases and the availability of new technologies such as optical computing.
- You will provide the opportunity to have more efficient, energy-saving and (hopefully) scalable solutions.
- You will create patents that would strengthen Ericsson’s IPR portfolio and protect it against other potential disruptions.
The skills you bring:
- A proven expertise and strong background in telecommunication use cases and mobile networks, compute paradigms such as Quantum Computing or Neuromorphic technologies, as well as a solid background in mathematics and physics.
- Several years of experience from industrial research or from academia, and leadership in this competence area.
- Leadership to move forward the research to devise novel compute algorithms to efficiently solve telco use-cases with high technology readiness level using emerging compute paradigms.
- Ability to stay updated on key industry trends, academic research, and technology development to understand the identified novel compute systems including model of computation, algorithms, programming scheme and the target hardware.
- Experience in innovation and filing patents in the domain to secure relevant intellectual property for Ericsson.
- Experience to initiate and contribute to the patent strategies in the corresponding areas (e.g. Quantum Technologies).
- A professional and international network of peer technology authorities within and outside Ericsson that you can nurture and expand.
- Ability to represent Ericsson as a technical leader in contacts with customers, competitors, partners, and academia; and to create, drive, and actively participate in the necessary strategic partnerships and collaborations (e.g. with academia) for the knowledge build-up and creation of results (e.g. studies, Po Cs, demos, etc.).
- Ability to drive and take active part in creating our strategies for the emerging compute area and provide technical leadership, support, and competence development of our researchers in these areas.
- Excellent communication skills.
