Senior clinician in Small Animal Cardiology

The Division of Small Animal Internal Medicine, Department of Clinical Veterinary Science, Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Bern, Switzerland invites candidates to apply for a position as Senior clinician in Small Animal Cardiology.
We are looking for a small animal cardiologist to lead and further develop the cardiology service at the Vetsuisse Faculty Bern. Applicants should be board-eligible or board-certified Diplomates of the European (ECVIM-CA) or the American (ACVIM) College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in the specialty of cardiology

What do we offer?

The successful candidate will be working with a team of dedicated nurses and a specialty intern and is expected to establish a residency programme. At the Vetsuisse Faculty currently two academic tracks are available: the educator track (80% on clinics) and the habilitation track (50% on clinics). Both are designed to lead to a tenured position (Dozentur). Part-time or job-sharing arrangements are possible, if desired by the candidates.

About the Small Animal Clinic Bern

The Small Animal Clinic Bern offers specialist services in internal medicine, oncology, cardiology, surgery, neurology, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, emergency medicine and intensive care medicine. We are equipped with high-quality tools and facilities, including ultrasound, endoscopy, MRI, CT, and an on-site clinical pathology laboratory. The clinic also has an intensive care unit, which is staffed 24/7.
Our cardiology equipment includes a Phillips Affinity 70C Ultrasound, a Siemens Vida 3T MRI, a Siemens Naeotom Alpha photon-counting scanner with Cardio software (the first of its kind in veterinary medicine), and an O-Arm CBCT mobile system for 2D fluoroscopy (intraoperative) and volume 3D scans.
For interventional cardiology and related research, our faculty has access to the Experimental Animal Center at Inselspital, located just 10 minutes from the animal hospital. This center is equipped with a Siemens ARTIS icono floor fluoroscope, state-of-the-art anesthesia and recovery facilities, and dedicated veterinary staff.

The Small Animal Clinic Bern is located in the centre of Bern offering proximity to the mountains as well as several beautiful lakes, and the region offers easy access to numerous outdoor activities, including hiking, climbing, skiing and cycling.

Activities and career development

The successful applicant will be responsible for the running of the small animal cardiology service of the small animal hospital and will have off clinics time to fulfill research and teaching and professional development activities. Responsibilities include teaching residents, interns, and last-year veterinary students during their clinical rotations, conducting administrative work, and communicating with referring veterinarians. Formal teaching duties involve classroom instruction and small group teaching Candidates should have good English. A basic knowledge of German and/or French is beneficial to communicate with pet owners, though not mandatory.
