Database Migration Specialist/DevOps

They work with grid and off-grid utilities to provide clean, reliable, and low-cost energy solutions, utilizing advanced technology to detect energy theft, optimize performance, and support sustainable energy management practices.
We’re looking for an experienced Database Migration Specialist/ Dev Ops Engineer to lead the migration of a client database from Dynamo DB to a time-series database (Postgres/Timescale or Influx DB). This role requires advanced skills in AWS infrastructure, Kubernetes setup, and time-series database management. Following the migration project, the specialist may transition to an ongoing role focused on enhancing and managing our Dev Ops infrastructure.
In our collaboration model, you’ll be working and communicating directly with the client’s development team.
What you’ll do in this role
- Lead and refine the migration of our database from Dynamo DB to a time-series database (Postgres/Timescale or Influx DB).
- Configure and manage AWS-hosted database infrastructure and Kubernetes services, optimizing database performance and ensuring access to necessary services.
- Provide database access guidance to the software team, delegating any application code modifications to them.
- Implement and maintain data integrity checks, health monitoring, and automated backup solutions to ensure reliability and availability.
- Oversee the transition of our Python, Java Script, and Rust applications from EC2 to Kubernetes for improved scalability and maintenance.
- Set up AWS RDS for database management and AWS Elasti Cache for in-memory caching, while supporting custom configurations for Kafka and Elasticsearch.
- Build and optimize CI/CD workflows by enhancing or transitioning our current Git Lab + Jenkins systems.
- Extend our monitoring framework with tools like Grafana and New Relic to maintain system health, ensure high uptime, and provide alerts for potential disruptions or outages.
- Support and expand Tableau and other business intelligence systems to improve client analytics.
- Integrate diverse data sources, develop custom dashboards, and enhance the UI for better client insights.
- Database Migration Expertise: Proven experience in database migration, especially from Dynamo DB to time-series databases like Postgres/Timescale or Influx DB. Strong knowledge of time-series data management, performance optimization, and data integrity practices.
- AWS & Kubernetes Proficiency: Advanced expertise in AWS infrastructure and Kubernetes cluster configuration, with hands-on experience in hosting and configuring modern databases.
- Tableau & BI Tools: Familiarity with Tableau and other BI analytics tools, with experience in connecting various data sources and developing client-centered dashboards.
- Programming Proficiency: Skilled in Python, SQL, and modern Dev Ops tools for database and infrastructure management.
- Demonstrated ability to design actionable project plans, set achievable milestones, and prioritize tasks effectively.
