We’re looking for a talented, enthusiastic and organised Design Technician, to join our Design Office team in Bude. You will be passionate about designing and developing high quality products, be a practical and creative thinker and have strong attention to detail. As well as being responsible for supporting with general tasks within the wider Design Office team, you’ll be working in a busy and diverse environment, and can be assured of an interesting and varied role.

We’re looking for a talented, enthusiastic and organised Design Technician, to join our Design Office team in Bude. You will be passionate about designing and developing high quality products, be a practical and creative thinker and have strong attention to detail. As well as being responsible for supporting with general tasks within the wider Design Office team, you’ll be working in a busy and diverse environment, and can be assured of an interesting and varied role.
Key Responsibilities
- Developing part symbols, product nests and single part programs for punch presses and laser cutter in a timely and precise manner and to utilise Production assets, in accordance with the requirements of Production Management.
- Provide support and work closely with all areas of the business when required to produce practical solutions to meet customer requirements or internal business demands.
- Creation and maintenance of SAP part and production data across various SAP processes and transactions.
- Value engineering on current products to enhance production efficiencies, improve functionality, optimise material usage and reduce manufacturing costs.
- Provide technical information\support to the Sales department for customer quotes or enquiries, including design approval drawings when required.
- To develop conceptual designs and create prototypes for new product offerings in line with specifications drawn up in conjunction with other departments.
- Support of FE design team with coordinated design activities when required and providing feedback on preferred design processes and solutions to manufacturing problems.
- Design of new components, standard and specialist, using Inventor and associated software.
- Producing, maintaining and publishing of drawings and technical information for use in all areas of the business.
- Recognise potential improvements and corrections to technical information.
- Ensure that all processes are carried out in accordance with the relevant operating instructions and Safe Working Instructions.
- Maintain high standards in accuracy and quality of work at all times within all programs used.
- Take ownership of allocated tasks to meet deadlines and prioritise accordingly.
- Maintain all records, both manual and electronic, relating to your work in the area.
- Be flexible in your approach to working hours and provide cover/assistance where necessary by shift patterns, staff absence or increased workload.
- Any other tasks which may reasonably be required of you given your general position and level within the company.

Personal Profile & Desired Skills:
Qualifications in the below will be considered an advantage:
- An apprenticeship in engineering / design engineering / product design
- Autodesk Inventor 3D CAD software
- SAP (good knowledge)
- A pro-active and positive approach
- The candidate should demonstrate a high level of organisation and communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Plan and prioritise time effectively when working on their own or in a team situation.
- Good computer skills and have experience of using Microsoft Excel, Word and email.
- Have excellent attention to detail.
- Have a flexible approach as this role will involve close collaboration with multiple teams across the business.
- A passion for delivery customer service excellent in a cost-effective way.
- Act in a reasonable & compliant manner
- Ensure all processes & polices are adhered to
- Flexible & agile - current company practice is you may be expected to undertake work within other departments to assist with workloads or to provide holiday / sickness cover, as and when required
- Ensure that you maintain a high standard of personal presentation
