Gardener/Gravedigger - job description
Responsible to: Outdoor Team Supervisor when based in Welfare or Memorial Parks)
Cemetery Team Leader (when based at cemetery)
Main Purpose: Maintenance and upkeep of Horden Parish Council open spaces including parks, playing fields and cemetery.
Main Duties:

• Grounds Maintenance (including)

Grass cutting, strimming - using various machinery
Preparation, planting flower beds and shrub beds
Maintenance of Sports Pitches - Football, Cricket, Bowls
Marking up of Sports Pitches
Hedge cutting, tree pruning, turfing work, landscaping
General maintenance of fencing
Spraying - pesticides, fertilisers
Seat maintenance, painting
Play Equipment repairing and painting
Litter picking, emptying litter bins and dog foul bins
Driving tractors, work vehicles

• Cemetery Work (including)

Grass cutting, strimming - using various machinery
Digging and re-opening of graves with mechanical and non-mechanical equipment
Backfilling of graves
Seat maintenance, painting
Hedge cutting, tree pruning, turfing work, landscaping
Carrying out and recording inspections

• General Duties (including)

Upkeep of all Council buildings within the parks and cemetery
Liaison with public
Work on park events, fun days and other special events
Out of working hours opening and locking up Memorial Park, Welfare Park and Cemetery Gates on a rota basis
Any other duties appropriate to grade and general responsibilities as allocated from time to time.
