Job Description
Due to continuing success, SLR Consulting is seeking an NSIP Consents Manager to lead on the delivery of some of the most significant energy transition projects in the UK. This is an opportunity to join an experienced consenting team within one of the fastest growing and leading environmental consultancies in the UK.

You'll be an experienced leader in consenting NSIP projects, having successfully gained Development Consent on major projects and linear infrastructure, ideally within the Power sector.

Working collaboratively with clients, colleagues and project partners across the UK, particularly EIA project managers, you will lead on the development and execution of consent strategy to deliver energy infrastructure NSIP projects. You will provide specialist consent support and/or lead large teams, co-ordinate and collaborate with project partners, such as engineers, land agents and legal teams, build relationships with external stakeholders and support our clients with the delivery of quality NSIP Development Consents.

Overview of team / business area
You will join the Planning and ESIA team which employs over 100 planning and EIA professionals supporting projects across the Energy, Mining, Industry and Built Environment sectors. We anticipate that the majority of projects will be in the energy sector and will include some major linear infrastructure projects including hydrogen pipelines and electricity cable connections for offshore wind farms.

The role
You will play a significant role in the delivery of NSIP projects, working closely with our consenting team, EIA Project Managers, technical specialists, and specialist partners to deliver large energy infrastructure projects, particularly linear infrastructure such as electrical cables, transmission lines and gas pipelines. Additionally, you will support the business with the development of new business opportunities by maintaining and building client and partner relationships.

The role will involve short term travel across the UK depending on client and project sites as required.
Typically, you will undertake the following:
  • Developing the consenting strategy for major energy infrastructure projects;
  • Leading on client and partner communications for individual projects;
  • Leading multidisciplinary teams, alongside and EIA Project Manager, to complete development consent applications;
  • Working alongside others (e.g., Project Director, Project Controller) to manage and maintain the multi-million pound project budgets;
  • Identifying and escalating key risks, decisions and issues to the Project Director and client with recommendations for how they can be managed on the projects;
  • Take responsibility for the quality of NSIP deliverables ensuring consistency and quality standards are met;
  • Interface with project stakeholders including engineers, land agents, consultation specialists and lawyers.
  • Develop relationships with external project stakeholders, such as local planning authorities, Planning Inspectorate, and key statutory consultees.

About you
We are looking for someone with the following skills and experience:
  • Proven track record of supporting client’s to consent large and complex NSIP projects;
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the NSIP consenting regime, including national policy, the Planning Act and associated legislation, Planning Inspectorate advice and project case history;
  • Demonstrable client management capabilities with the ability to develop and manage high level client relationships;
  • An ability to win and deliver new work through both existing and new client or partner contacts;
  • Proven experience building, managing, and leading complex multidisciplinary teams;
  • Expertise in developing strong external stakeholder relationships; and
  • An eye for detail with an ability to deliver a wide spectrum of consenting documentation to a high standard.
