Job Purpose:
To provide a high standard of support, ensuring young people’s needs are met through promoting independence in a safe, respectful and dignified manner; giving young people choice over the services they are using and ensuring the best possible outcomes. To deliver all support in compliance with the West Midlands Sub-Regional Supported Accommodation Framework Agreement, the Company’s values, policies and practices.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure the rights of young people whom we support are promoted at all times, ensuring that the principles of choice, dignity, respect, involvement and empowerment are maintained.
- Ensure that the emotional well-being of the young people we support is respected in all aspects of service delivery, wherever possible enabling them to assert responsibility for their own lives.
- Help in creating opportunities and choices, so that young people can achieve their desired outcomes from the Every Child Matters domains.
- Promote the physical, emotional, social and intellectual well-being of young people we support to access local facilities and opportunities.
- Meet the practical and support needs of young people who access the service as defined in their care plan from the placing local authority.
- Ensure Health and Safety requirements, including Risk Assessments are adhered to with due regard to young people we support, staff, visitors and the workplace environment including the expectation of maintaining appropriate standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Assist in the day to day record keeping on matters pertaining to young people we support and alert the appropriate person of any developments causing concern ie social worker, Brightsky Management, police etc.
- Work supportively with other professionals, colleagues, carers, relatives or friends in the interest of the well being of the young people we support.
- Make a positive contribution to work constructively within the team; attending team meetings, briefings etc, as appropriate.
- Attend appropriate training courses as set out in the training profile for the job role and to take responsibility for your own ongoing personal development.
- Participate in the supervision and competency based appraisal process.
- Be able to work all shifts required by local rota pattern, which may include working regular evenings, weekends and Public Holidays.
- Work in other appropriate locations as needed.
- Adhere to the company Ethos of Care for young people before , creating an environment where young people feel valued.

Skills and Abilities:
Ability to communicate and liaise with the people who access our services, relatives and professionals on a day-to-day basis.
Ability to liaise closely with colleagues to ensure the support needs of young people are met in a timely and considered manner.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Always treat the person with dignity and respect and involving them in the decision making about their support.
Able to promote young peoples’ rights.
Able to encourage and support young people to do things for themselves in order to promote their independence and empowerment.
Able to support individuals when they are anxious or distressed.
Able to appropriately support young people who may sometimes display behaviour that is viewed as challenging and/or confrontational.
Able to demonstrate effective interpersonal relations, e.g. integrity, trust, diplomacy, negotiation skills and contributing to helping others.
Able to receive and record accurate information pertaining to the young people we support.
Able to identify and respond to the changing needs of young people and communicate this or any areas of concern to the appropriate person.
Able to participate in staff meetings; supervisions and annual competency based appraisals.
Able to respond to directions from management and directors in a timely way.
Be physically able to complete frontline care tasks and mentally able to deal with the demands of the job.
Be honest, reliable and trustworthy in promoting the Company and its services in a positive and professional manner.
Ability to reflect upon practice and performance and how this may impact on young people.
Experience:
A minimum of 12 months experience as a support worker in a social care setting or equivalent, preferably with young people.
Educational:
Verbal and written English skills; basic mathematical skills. QCF Level 3 Diploma in Children’s Workforce Development/Health and Social Care (or working towards completion);
Care Standards and assessed competence in the work place.
Special Requirements:
This post is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. A Criminal Record Disclosure will be required prior to appointment.
