Senior Privacy Manager

As a Senior Privacy Manager in the RBC Privacy Team you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact by working with all parts of the business on all aspects of privacy compliance.
This is a highly visible and important role. The successful candidate will be predominantly focused on the UK and Europe however there will be opportunity to work with colleagues in APAC, Canada and the US, as appropriate.
What will you Do
- As a senior privacy subject matter expert, reporting to the Head of Data Protection UK, Europe and APAC, you will provide advice, oversight and challenge of the UK / Europe business and functions, and across other entities and jurisdictions as required and ensuring local and enterprise oversight processes are aligned to the three lines of defence model.
- Support the maintenance and enhancement of the Global Privacy Program within the region, helping ensure compliance with applicable privacy laws, regulations, and internal policy requirements, and fostering a corporate culture that respects privacy and builds trust with RBC’s clients and employees.
- Support Global Privacy’s ongoing transformation to a risk management function through oversight, anchored first line of defence accountability, improved risk assessment methodology and enhanced reporting.
- Support the DPOs with all aspects of their regulatory tasks, representing and deputising for them as required.
- Design and maintenance of policies, procedures and appropriate training to address Privacy risks.
- Monitoring and regular assessment of the adequacy and effectiveness of measures/procedures put in place in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Drive a culture of privacy by advocating for appropriate collection and use of personal data, privacy by design, alignment to RBC privacy principles, accountability and sharing of best practices.
- Provide effective oversight of the operation of privacy controls with respect to monitoring the development and periodic review of governance arrangements in order to detect any risk of failure by RBC or one of its suppliers to comply with applicable privacy requirements.
- Promote the culture in which the privacy requirements being taken into account at an early stage in new strategies, initiatives such as acquisitions and alliances, and new products and services (privacy by design).
What do you need to succeed:
- Demonstrate a strong privacy background, including a minimum of 7 years’ privacy experience, and an ethical approach to data use.
- Demonstrate good technical knowledge of data protection laws, regulations and practices in the UK and/or Ireland, and experience of applying these in practice, including communicating with privacy regulators and clients.
- Excellent administration, documentation, planning and organisation skills.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication and advocacy skills; able to express complex issues to non-expert audiences, within internal or client-facing settings; communicates professionally and tactfully with stakeholders at all levels, building positive relationships.
- Experience delivering cross-company and/or jurisdiction privacy programs/initiatives preferred.
Nice-to-have
- Prior relevant experience in Financial Services in a large multi-national company is desirable but not essential.
- Experience of formal risk management preferred.
- Higher level qualifications such as A Levels or a Degree (or equivalent) are desirable.
- Privacy qualification (such as CIPP/E or Practitioner Certificate) highly desirable.
