Job Description and Objectives
Job Title: Senior Surveyor
Reports To: Managing Surveyor/ Commercial Manager
Location: Wandsworth SW18
Summarised Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead on cost management and contract administration efforts on large-scale construction projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of cost estimation, budgeting, and financial control throughout the project lifecycle. This role requires strong analytical skills, extensive knowledge of construction contracts, and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Measures and Targets
  • Estimating
· May be required to assist with producing estimates for new tenders/ projects
Estimates are thorough, own measures are conducted and rates are market tested.
  • Procurement
· Responsible for delivery of robust and ethical procurement practices.
Projects are procured ethically, to best value and on time.
· Prepare, review and present subcontractor recommendations to Managing Surveyor/ Commercial Manager.
Tender analysis is accurate and comprehensive and produced in line with the procurement programme.
· Review and prepare Sub-Contractor Orders
Timely and accurate execution of Sub-Contracts, in line with all current legislations and policies.
· Responsible for resolving contractual disputes and legal matters in a timely manner for assigned project(s).
Disputes resolved in a successful and timely manner.
  • Subcontract Administration
· Implement ethical subcontract administration practice and drive continuous quality and efficiency improvement.
Credible relationships with supply chain.
  • Cost Reporting
· Lead the collation of project cost report and present to Managing Surveyor/ Commercial Manager at monthly cost report meetings.
Monthly reports are produced accurately and are presented with transparency and confidence.
  • Cash Flows
· Responsible for ensuring accurate cash flow forecasting.
Cash flows are presented on time.
· Lead the collation of project cash flow and present to Managing Surveyor/ Commercial Manager at cash flow meetings.
Cash flow is accurate.
All variances are explained.
  • Client Contract Administration
· Provide supporting information in order to facilitate build contracts.
Build contracts are correct, risk is managed.
· Ensure the Client & their stakeholders partners are informed of project progress.
Client expectations are well managed.
· Maintain positive and successful client relationships.
Disputes are minimised.
Strong and credible relationships are maintained.
· Produce quotations for submission to the Client/ EA ensuring positive margin levels are achieved
Variation tracker is maintained and presented to Managing Surveyor/ Commercial Manager at regular intervals
  • Pre-Construction
· Attend pre-construction to operations project handover meetings.
New project successfully handed over to delivery teams.
· Provide continuous feedback to pre-construction of current market rates to inform new tenderers.
Current rates are used by pre-construction new tender enquiries.
  • People
· Create an environment to drive engagement and high performance.
Teams are happy and demonstrate high performance
· Manage the performance of junior members of staff
Managers and team members are clear on how they are performing, development needs are identified and addressed.
· Undertake regular team meetings.
The team are communicated to regularly
· Drive engagement and collaboration across all departments.
Project teams are cohesive and deal with conflict effectively.
  • Health & Safety
· Support implementation of Health & Safety policy for department and supply chain.
Health & Safety strategy is implemented.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Technical or Operational Skills
· Broad range of construction experience including main contracting, developing, management contract (not essential)
· Experience in various forms of contract including Standard JCT D&B.
· A full successful track record in leading financial management and cost control on projects.
· Experience in complex construction projects.
· Is computer savvy and can utilise various software
Qualification & Experience
· Experience of mentoring junior members of staff.
· Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in quantity surveying, with a proven track record in managing large-scale construction projects.
· Is used to working in a fast-paced environment
· Construction related degree.
· Leadership skills including:

· High-rise residential/ Care homes/ Student Accommodation/ Refurbishment
· Excel
· Bluebeam
· COINS (not essential)
· Viewpoint/ Fieldview or similar
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From £1.00 per year
Ability to commute/relocate:
  • Wandsworth, Greater London: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
