Job description

Join us as a Service Now Software Engineer

  • This is an opportunity for a technically minded individual to join our Service Now Product team and gain exposure to our customer facing franchises
  • You’ll be working with new and innovative technology to deliver highly valuable solutions on the Service Now Saa S platform
  • Hone your existing software engineering skills and advance your career in this critical role
  • You’ll work from home some of the time, but you’ll also spend one day a week working from our Edinburgh or London office

What you'll do

Joining a supportive and engaged team culture, you'll use Scrum Agile to deliver regular incremental improvements for our customers. You’ll also apply widely agreed software engineering principles and methodologies to design, develop, test, and maintain applications and services to achieve the stated business and technology goals within required budgets and timelines.

We’ll look to you to oversee the quality of work across the team, making sure that it meets the technical standards for all services output. From stakeholder identification and engagement, requirements gathering, analysis and design, through coding to testing, deployment and operations, you’ll be responsible for working across the lifecycle.

You’ll also:

  • Coach and guide other engineers and oversee solutions developed across different delivery streams
  • Lead the design by implementing and testing code based solutions and working across the lifecycle of the system
  • Deliver intentional architecture and formulate emergent design through innovative ideas, experimentation and prototyping
  • Produce resilient and long-lived software to act flexibly and cope with future needs using Agile methodology
  • Design and develop software with a focus on the automation of build, test and deployment activities, using executable patterns
  • Write unit and integration tests in automated test environments to ensure code quality
  • Champion the reuse and sharing of platform components and technologies within the software engineering teams

The skills you'll need

We’re looking for someone with significant experience of implementing innovative solutions on the Service Now platform, who can build strong relationships with both stakeholders and fellow developers. You’ll have proven experience working in a Service Now role in a large organisation, preferably in financial services, and of delivering high quality results. In addition, you’ll hold certifications in Service Now System Administration and Application Developer.

Good ITIL knowledge will be required while having foundation V4 would be advantageous. We’ll expect you to have a background in software engineering, software design or database design and architecture, as well as experience of developing software in a SOA or micro-services paradigm.

Furthermore, you’ll need:

  • Experience of leading the implementation of programming best practice, especially around scalability, automation, virtualisation, optimisation, availability and performance
  • A proven track record of supporting and coaching colleagues to achieve expected outcomes
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and communication skills with the ability to share complex technical concepts in a simple way
  • Development experience in a programming language with experience of using industry recognised frameworks and development tooling
  • Experience of working in an environment where products must be delivered to specific timescales
  • Sound collaboration skills with the ability to work with business teams to produce pragmatic solutions that work for them
  • Experience of information security policies and practices within the financial sector
