Join our team in the Division of Employment and Training as a Database Administrator in a key role supporting Wisconsin's workforce.
The person hired into this position may request to work remotely for the majority of their work schedule, but will need to report in person to our downtown Madison headquarter office, sometimes on short notice. Employees with approved remote and hybrid-remote work arrangements are generally expected to work within the state of Wisconsin. Remote work options are subject to change.
Occasional in-state travel for meeting or conferences is required.

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Deputy Director of the Bureau of Workforce Information and Technical Support (BWITS) in the Division of Employment and Training (DET) in the Department of Workforce Development (DWD), this position is responsible for the development and maintenance of the databases and data warehouses for the bureau. This position ensures the bureau's databases and warehouses are updated and maintained in compliance with the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) federal-state cooperative programs and Employment and Training Administration (ETA) Workforce Information Grants (WIG). BWITS staff work closely with other DET bureaus, and other DWD divisions that have policy and programmatic responsibilities supported by BWITS operations, and external entities using BWITS's information systems and data, such as the Workforce Development Boards, Job Service offices, the legislature, economic and workforce development entities, etc.

Salary Information

Starting pay is between $71,052 and $89,825 per year, plus an exemplary benefits package:

The classification title for this position is IS Business Automation Specialist. This position is not represented in a collective bargaining unit. A 12-month probationary period will be required.
Pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan in effect at the time of appointment. Starting pay may vary for current state employees.

DWD does not sponsor visas and is not an eligible OPT employer for those with F1 visas. This is not a contract position. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant completing the I-9 upon hire.
Qualifications

Qualifications marked with an asterisk (*) will be evaluated in the first step of the selection process. Additional qualifications may be evaluated in subsequent steps.
You need to have the following experience:
    • Design and maintenance of Workforce Information Databases, including activities such as data management support
    • Using database languages and tools
    • Analyzing, troubleshooting, and resolving issues reported for IT systems or business users
    • Gathering requirements from business users and/or managing projects for IT solutions/systems
  • Organizing and prioritizing work to ensure effective and efficient completion of tasks
  • Communicating and collaborating with others to achieve business objectives
Any of the following experience would be nice to have:
    • Reviewing and updating websites and documents for accessibility compliance
    • Using visualization and data analysis software such as Tableau, SAP BI, SAS, or similar
    • Developing, maintaining, or enhancing public-facing web sites or web applications
    • Using web frameworks and coding languages such as Bootstrap, SQL, HTML, CSS, Java Script, and Python
