Introduction

The Department of Revenue is looking for experienced auditors to join a team of auditors in the Corporation Section of the Audit Bureau, to fill the Revenue Auditor 5 (Corporation Tax Books and Records Auditor – Specialist) position. These auditors are responsible for full-scope audits of Wisconsin corporation franchise/income taxes.
Remote/Telework up to 60%. Note: After completion of probation, telework may gradually increase up to 60% based on performance and workload needs. These positions are being offered in our Glen Ellyn, IL office. Less than full-time work schedules will be considered for well-qualified candidates.

Position Summary

This is a specialist level position responsible for auditing multi-state corporations for income and franchise taxes. Conduct audits that involve the most complex issues and work with taxpayers to resolve complex or disputed audit issues.
You will spend most of your time performing the following responsibilities:

Examine the books and records of corporations to determine the correct tax liability.
Prepare electronic workpapers and reports setting forth adjustments to reflect the required correct tax liability.

Salary Information

Starting salary will be between $42.00 and $51.85 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications, plus benefits. For information on state benefits click here. Current state employees' pay will be set in accordance with pay upon appointment provisions of the compensation plan for pay schedule and range 07-02. A 24-month probationary period may be required.

Job Details

The department will conduct a background check, fingerprint check and tax compliance check prior to making an offer to hire.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified candidates will have:

Bachelor's or advanced degree in accounting or equivalent work experience (e.g., professional experience auditing accounting records and/or procedures, using generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS), or a combination of academic preparation and professional auditing experience, etc.).
Experience auditing Wisconsin corporation franchise/income tax returns.
Experience researching complex tax issues.

Qualifications that may be evaluated at a later stage in the selection process:

Experience with training or presenting tax or other technical topics to individuals or groups in a professional or academic setting.
