Job Description

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Postdoctoral Scholar of Science Education, Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, College of Education [R0144489].

ROLE of the POSITION

This is a three-year position, funded by the National Science Foundation. The selected candidate will work closely with the Principal Investigator to further the aims of the project. Specifically, the postdoctoral researcher will focus on research efforts, including data collection, analysis, and dissemination of results, to explore:

The ways in which science teachers enact antiracist praxis and pedagogies
How teachers, students, parents, and administrators describe and identify antiracist science teaching
The experiences and/or structures that support or constrain antiracist science teaching
Ways to support science teachers’ development of antiracist science teaching identities

PROFILE of the OFFICE OF POSTDOCTORAL AFFAIRS (OPA)

The mission of the UNLV Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA) is to enhance and support postdoctoral training and career development; serve as the central resource office for postdoctoral questions and issues for faculty, supervisors, mentors, and prospective and current postdocs; build a community for all UNLV postdocs; and provide professional development programs and networking events for postdocs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Ph D is Science Education, or a relevant field, from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and experience with qualitative research methods.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

Dedicated commitment to improving science/STEM education for students from racially marginalized backgrounds.
Experience with critical theories, methodologies, and pedagogies.
Record of scholarly publications related to antiracism, social justice, and/or equity in science and/or STEM education.
Strong interest in or experience with community, school, and classroom-based research.
Strong project management skills.
Experience in k-12 science education.

SALARY RANGE

Starting salary is $65,000, or commensurate with labor market and appointing authority’s availability of funds. Position is contingent upon funding.
