Job Summary

This position provides support to the Restorative Justice Program of the Victim Services & Restorative Justice Unit. The Restorative Justice Program provides restorative services and opportunities to those under the jurisdiction of the MN Department of Corrections and those impacted or harmed by individuals under the jurisdiction of the MN Department of Corrections. Restorative practices in this setting are post-conviction, typically taking place in a carceral environment, and most often are in response to severe harms (homicide, sexual assault, and domestic violence). This position will assist RJ Program staff with the development, implementation, and evaluation of current and upcoming process and program offerings.
  • This position is anticipated to last up to six (6) months and may work up to 20 hours per week. The specific hours and days of work will be determined at the time of appointment based on business need and applicant availability.
  • This position may include traveling to various Minnesota Correctional Facilities (MCF) locations which may include Faribault, Lino Lakes. Oak Park Heights, Moose Lake, Red Wing, Rush City, St. Cloud, Shakopee, Stillwater, Togo and Willow River.
  • Applicants must include an anticipated graduation/completion date on their resume. This information is needed to determine eligibility.
  • The Minnesota Department of Corrections will not sponsor applicants for work visas. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker you must be a student enrolled in an educational program or planning to enroll within three months. Students may be "off" for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as student workers, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. As a student, you must be enrolled in high school or in a post-secondary or graduate program. If a student is enrolled at a credit granting institution, he/she must carry at least six semester (nine quarter) credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, a student must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load shall be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Educational Verification form prior to appointment.

To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all the minimum qualifications listed below.   • Current enrollment in a post-secondary or graduate study program. * Please ensure that your application/resume clearly indicates the college where you are currently enrolled, as well as your anticipated graduation date.
  • Experience and skills in using standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets, and databases sufficient to create, modify, and protect information/documents.
    Ability to use customer service skills on the phone, in person, and online to provide effective general and specialized office support with common courtesy, tact, interest in positive problem
  • Skills in business English sufficient to write, edit and file documents using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be further assessed on the following:
  • Communication & writing skills sufficient to interact with incarcerated persons and victims of crime.
  • Possess strong written and verbal skills
  • Ability to conduct research and create written summaries of that research.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Basic understanding of restorative justice principals and trauma informed advocacy.
  • Ability to adapt to continuous organizational and program changes.
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships with co-workers, incarcerated individuals, and crime victims.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with restorative practices. Course work completed on restorative justice principles and approaches.

Additional Requirements
The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation. Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records. New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
