The Role
Responsibilities of an APS 5 Engineer Practitioner - Aerospace include:
- Performing critical and complex engineering activities and providing advice in the field of Aviation shipborne systems under limited direction.
- Applying engineering knowledge and experience to identify risks and uncertainties.
- Providing engineering support to teams including Integrated Logistics Support and Commercial.
- Demonstrating engineering knowledge and provide advice and recommendations on advancements to established engineering principles, techniques, methods and regulations.
- Building and sustaining positive relationships and actively participating in teamwork.
- Communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Evaluating the contractor documentation to assure that the Hunter Class Frigate design and technical materiel meets requirements, legislative policy and regulatory frameworks, providing recommendations and contributing to the implementation of actions.
- Monitoring and ensuring safety aspects of Defence materiel systems are considered and incorporated into Aviation systems integration activities.
About our Team
The Hunter Class Frigate (HCF) will be one of the most advanced warships in the world with cutting edge technology and capabilities. As Australia’s largest shipbuilding project, HCF provides the foundation for Continuous Naval Shipbuilding in Australia.
We are working with experts from the UK, USA, Canada and Europe to provide six frigates optimised for anti-submarine warfare to the Royal Australian Navy. The frigates are being constructed at the Osborne Naval Shipyard, South Australia utilising the latest production technologies.

Information on Defence employees’ working conditions, including an attractive remuneration package with a generous superannuation contribution (15.4%), can be sourced from the Defence Enterprise Agreement.

The successful candidate will have:

- Passion to learn, contribute, question, explore and research further to understand more.
Your relevant experience and education in systems would ideally include integrated survivability, vulnerability and signatures relevant to naval ships. That said, we are interested to hear from qualified engineers with knowledge or, relevant technical interest seeking to develop their capability in this arena.
