WHERE YOU'LL BE WORKING

Formed in 1882, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH) is a major metropolitan tertiary referral hospital and a principal provider of specialist healthcare. It remains one of the nation’s most respected hospitals, with a distinguished history serving the health needs of local, statewide, national and international communities.

This is a district wide position and you will be required to travel to the clinics at Concord.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

The Cancer Genetics Counsellor will work as part of Cancer Services in partnership with the Department of Cancer Genetics to provide genetics diagnosis, testing and counselling services with patients and/or family members of SLHD Cancer Services. In particular, this position will provide support to individuals and families to minimise the impact of a Cancer genetic diagnosis. The position will be required to maintain client records, and relevant activity and reporting data.

THE REQUIREMENTS

Must have an undergraduate degree in a non-nursing, non-medical discipline and in addition hold a post graduate qualification in genetic counselling or have attained Part I certification in genetics counselling from the Human Genetics Society of Australasia.
Working knowledge of Genetic Counselling, including the medical, genetic and psychosocial aspects.
Experience in dealing with privacy, confidentiality and ethical issues related to the process of genetic counselling.
Experience in the use of client management and genetic databases and pedigree drawing software.
